Postgraduate Researcher at Institute of Child Health, UCL
  • United Kingdom
  • April 2011 to September 2011

Title of dissertation: “Status of the imprinted gene Pleckstrin homology-like domain, family A, member 2 (PHLDA2) in routine Chorionic Villus Samples (CVSs)”, at the UCL Institute of Child Health supervised by Dr.Sayeda Abu-Amero and Professor Gudrun Moore.

Aim of project was to investigate expression levels of imprinted gene PHLDA2 in CVSs and its correlation with fetal birth weight and to establish imprinting status of PHLDA2 in CVSs.

Analysis of data using the R statistical software, which is an integrated suite of software facilities for data manipulation, calculation and graphical display

Undergraduate Researcher at Institute of Child Health, UCL
  • United Kingdom
  • October 2009 to June 2010

Title of dissertation: "GRB10 expression levels in human term placenta and its correlation with fetal growth", at the UCL Institute of Child Health supervised by Dr.Sayeda Abu-Amero and Professor Gudrun Moore (First Class Grade 78%).

• Aim of project was to investigate imprinted gene GRB10 and its role in fetal growth.
• Found a correlation between this gene and fetal growth parameters (birth weight, placental weight) and a statistically significant correlation with fetal head circumference, which will hopefully improve our understanding of intra-uterine growth disorders.
• Contributed data that will form part of a publication by Ishida et al. (manuscript in progress) in which I will be cited as a co-author.
