The Nurse Educator is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for nursing staff, emphasizing the requirements for cultural awareness.
Participates in committees, task forces, meetings and activities that enhances Nursing Staff development and improvement in patient care.
Maintains personal and professional development through continuing professional development programs and other activities.
Additional responsibilities:
• Responsible for Head nurses and nursing staff assigned in Specialized Nursing Practice Units.
• Identifies present and potential needs for new programs or revisions of existing programs and areas of responsibility.
• Assumes responsibility for additional administrative assignments as required.
• Interviews, select, disciplines, promotes or dismisses staff for which she/he is directly responsible based on established administrative protocols.
• Ensures that all Nursing staff assigned in Specialized Nursing Practice units completes the Nursing department orientation program.
• Ensures that all Nursing staff assigned to her area of responsibility who require re-certification in specialized skills successfully complete the re-certification program approved by the Nursing Education department.
• Ensures that performance appraisals are completed on Specialized Nursing Practice units that she/he is directly responsible for at intervals outlined in hospital policy.
• Ensures that all Nursing Staff within her/his areas of responsibility participate in the Nursing department staff development program.
• Provides regular reports on quality improvement activities for her/his areas of responsibility as required by Nursing departmental policy.
• Communicates problems, issues, or trends in areas of responsibilities which affect patient care or departmental programs to the Nursing Administration.
