Responsible for all aspects of Marine and Civil Construction business unit in partnership with the company CEO to provide Clients with value added services to enhance production and capacity. Selected achievements include Yas Marina piling and Pier construction; major repair and new construction of quay wall in Mussafah for Oilfield Services; and Milaha Shipyard’s Qatar expansion proposal for project management and site supervision. (shiplift upgrade, dredging, new quay wall, and upgrade to construction halls)
Reporting and providing consultation and advice to the General Manager, Operation and Maintenance Directorate. Duties include: analysis and tracking the annual maintenance budget (SAR 650 m); management of the Infrastructure Asset Inventory and Condition Assessment; and implementation of a world class Enterprise Asset Management System to improve the efficiency of maintaining the city assets to achieve a saving of SAR 1.5B by the year 2030.
Responsible for the management, performance, profit/loss, business development and completion of all aspects of Cubic Global Defense Inc. single or multiple projects in the region.
SELECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
Follow on Contract ITS O&M: Managing 40 system’s operators spread over 31 military sites across the UAE for the follow on Indoor Training Simulation (ITS) System Contract with UAE GHQ Armed Forces.
Responsible for all Henderson shipyard upgrade projects and procurement of equipment. In addition, I managed the shipyard facilities overhead budget of over $8m yearly, run the maintenance department of 15 personnel, and set out the asset management plan across the Henderson Business Unit.
Projects completed were in excess of AUD $35m including:
• New Dry Berths and Turntable extension: This project was to increase the ship repair capabilities. I overcame a particular difficulty of encountering unexpected very hard rock during excavation by getting a revised design to the foundation that required less excavation; and I managed to keep the project on time and budget.
• New Heavy Lift Wharf (Capable of 1, 600 tons capacity): I increased the width, strength and provided a much enhanced bollards capacity for the same capital budget that was initially approved for a smaller 450 tons capacity wharf.
• Dredging to -6.0m CD: Key achievement was obtaining the development approval from numerous external stakeholders including: Fremantle Ports, Environmental Protection Agency, LandCorp, Local Council, and Joint Assessment Panel for projects over AUD $7m.
• New Office Building: A modern 2 story office building with a capacity for 110 Staff.
• New Wet Berth Mooring Piles and Fenders: Designed and constructed for use by our Oil & Gas Client’s barges in a record time of 6 weeks. I established a strong partnership with our contractor to overcome all obstacles and get this project completed on time and budget.
Equipment procured includes: 275 ton Crawler Crane (Sumitomo), 85 ton Rough Terrain mobile crane (Tadano), 450 ton Crawler Crane (Kobelco), Forklifts, manlifts, warehouse trucks, Steel fabrication and welding equipment, etc

• Representing the company's shipyard sector in the GCC and reporting to the Global Shipyards Director in the UK. Registered the company with various government authorities including CNIA and ADPC, and actively developing close relationships with all major GCC shipyards including: Nakilat Shipyard Qatar, ASRY, BASREC, AHI, and Drydocks World.

• Report to the VP Engineering and manage the civil, mechanical and electrical engineering departments.
• Coordinate and manage all shipyard expansion contracts, major and minor capital expenditure projects, and plant improvement projects, processing on average 200 requests a year ranging from procurement of new production equipment to small refurbishment projects.
• Manage the effective delivery of plant maintenance services entertaining over 1400 maintenance requests per year including planned maintenance and repairs, tracking progress on a computerised maintenance management system.
• Manage several concurrent expansion projects including 155 m quay wall extension (contractor: Dutco Balfour Beatty) 3-storey administrative building and a twin warehouse.
• Completed contracts valued at AED 450 m including contracts for developing a master plan, detailed design and value engineering, dredging, fabrication and installation of a 2000t Syncholift for lifting ships and marine and heavy civil works and construction of industrial workshops, administrative offices and camp facilities.
Site Project Manager, Shipyard Construction, 1999 to 2003
• Coordinated the construction of shipbuilding facilities including 90 m ship lift piers, a 70 m quay wall, a 4 rail system serving several dry berths and a side transfer pit, and a 37 m high, 68 m wide ship construction hall with 35 t overhead cranes.
• Led a site team of engineers, inspectors and surveyors drawn from Halcrow, the consultant and DG Jones and Partners, the quantity surveyors along with in-house engineers and surveyors.
• Coordinated the work at site of multiple contractors like Overseas AST Arabtec JV, Al Hamed, Square General and ASCON maintaining cohesiveness in project execution.
• Played a key role in the project from concept design to commissioning and completed all contracts within budget and with highest standards of quality.
Senior Facilities Engineer, 1997 to 1999
• Managed facilities process teams with members from the production department, First Marine International (shipyard consultant), and Halcrow and Parsons Brinkerhoff (civil and MEP designers) to finalize overall dimensions, layout and services required.

• Successfully completed civil works for erection of 33 kV overhead transmission lines in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain for the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity department at a value of AED 850 m.

• Managed the execution of the civil works package for the QAFCO III expansion project covering installation of 2, 500 bored piles, foundations for urea and ammonia plants, 5 control buildings and a seawater pump house.
• Developed subcontractor's packages for concrete protection, painting and cladding based on FIDIC and local conditions of contracts.
Section Manager, 1993 to 1994
• Led a team of section engineers and foremen in executing civil works for the construction of the Ras Abu Fontas 'B' gas turbine power project. Installed pedestals for 5 120 kV gas turbines with associated foundations, 5m high columns, cable tunnel, chimneystacks and silencers. Executed the concreting of pedestals in 500 m3 pours over 10 hour periods with thermal insulated curing.
• Responsibilities included organization of all resources including machinery and manpower, development of construction method statements and design of formwork and monitoring and ensuring achievement of project milestones.

• Project: Doha Golf Course, Qatar: Construction of 18 and 9 hole golf courses involving excavation, hauling and backfilling of 400, 000m3 of soil and hard rock; importing of 300, 000m3 of dune sand for tree mounds; construction of 88, 000m2 of lined lakes with associated waterfalls, wires and bridges; and the construction of 3000m of drainage lines.
• Looked after all financial and contractual aspects of the project including planning, procurement of materials, submission of monthly valuations and final accounts including claims.
• Monitored work at site and coordinated with architects and resident engineers to ensure targeted outputs from labour and plant and complete the project on time.

• Project: An office building at 101 Martin's Lane London: The project covered demolition of the existing building, installation of a secant pile wall, excavation of a deep basement and construction of a new building with 12 reinforced concrete floors.

• Liaised with environmental and health inspectors, District Surveyors, architects, designers and resident engineers to resolve issues and ensure adherence to project schedules.

• Project: Westworld, a10-storey office building in Ealing: Managed all structural work including installation of 1.5 m diameter under-reamed bored cast in situ piles, foundations and all reinforced concrete structural works employing jack-up tables and cup-lock scaffolds for supporting soffits.
