Key Deliverables:
• Direct the entire gamut of procurement/supply chain activities across Africa (Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia)
and different business verticals such as steel, cement, mining, plastics, paint, beverage & hospitality
• Initiate and expedite the availability of raw material for manufacturing units by employing Just-in-Time and Total Cost
of Ownership strategies, and ensuring seamless coordination among procurement teams
• Create, implement a strategic procurement process for sourcing materials through materials requirement planning,
identification and qualification of suppliers, requests for quotations and competitive bidding
• Review and determine the service level agreements/long-term agreements relating to procurement of materials
• Develop and deploy strategies to improve supplier performance for plants’ spend and ensure the timely issuance of
purchase orders
• Setup and execute strategic approaches to expedite, de-expedite sourcing activities, reduce cancellations, spoilage, etc.
• Lead/coordinate the end-to-end procurement process by identifying process optimization opportunities, managing
requests for information (RFIs), requests for proposals (RFPs), invitation to tenders (ITTs), adjudications, e-auctions,
negotiations, contracts, and suppliers in line with organization’s policies and guidelines
• Build the purchase market intelligence and strategic sourcing activity in line with the global supply market strategy &
specific requirements of the company
• Develop a leadership team to support organizational development by overseeing the recruitment process, training and
mentoring, and monitoring their performance on a regular basis
• Create comprehensive reports/presentations with visual analysis and projected key takeaways for strategic decision-
making by the senior management
Significant Achievements:
• Developed a forward-looking, multi-year (3 years) global procurement strategy & category structure for spend
• Achieved annualized cost savings through supplier consolidation, long-term pricing agreements, integration of two
large spending categories from independent locations, elimination of shortages in material supply, and reduction in
import and logistics costs
• Spearheaded a global procurement team and devised long-term strategic plans to optimize key global direct and
indirect categories in a global multi-plant manufacturing environment, and effect cost savings
• Reduced CAPEX (capital expenditure) and improved gross margins and revenue by delivering large capital expenditure
projects within quick time
• Enabled the adoption of a centralized global approach to procurement for effectively managing electronics and
electrical commodity spend across a diverse product range through strategic negotiations with General Managers and
Purchasing VPs of the Group’s autonomous business units
• Collaborated with key stakeholders, cross-functional partners & strategic suppliers to develop comprehensive strategic
plans with a key focus on value chain optimization, resulting in year-on-year tangible benefits to the business
• Created CAPEX/OPEX budgets and optimized the procurement process to effect cost savings
• Raised the bar for performance by evaluating and aligning business goals with financial and operational strategies, and
devising solutions to wide-ranging issues - profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors, etc.
• Improved business performance by spearheading, establishing and streamlining procurement, production, marketing,
field and technical services policies and practices, and driving implementation through the leadership team
