Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties vary depending on the type of employer and nature of the project but typically
involve:
* Perform or oversee soil testing to determine the adequacy and strength of
foundations
* Test building materials, such as concrete, asphalt, or steel, for use in particular
projects
* Provide cost estimates for materials, equipment, or labour to determine a project’s
economic feasibility
* Setting out, levelling and surveying the site.
* Checking plans, drawings and quantities for accuracy of calculations.
* Overseeing the selection and requisition of materials and plant.
* Overseeing quality control and health and safety matters on site.
* Day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site
labour force and the work of any subcontractors.
* Liaising with any consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity
surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project.
* Preparing reports as required.
