Fixed and mobile security services for commercial and oil and gas companies in hostile environments
Following success in Ordnance Management, I was hand-picked for a secondment to drive strategy for the EHS transition from London to Dubai. The Risk Management EHS team provides advice and support for 3500 staff with a business annual turnover of £110m.
Achievements:
• Completing a full EHS audit during a country visit of all operations in Iraq for the first time.
• Initiating a review and implementing changes to the EHS Management system to ensure compliance with operational, ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
• Appointed lead auditor for Risk Management.
World leader in land mine clearance and explosive remnants of war for humanitarian agencies and oil and gas companies
Selected to join a highly successful team to develop and deliver enhanced performance in EHS. This role was a key appointment within a business unit that employs 850 staff and has an annual turnover of £40m. I was responsible for all EHS within OM, including, but not limited to, developing and implementing the EHS management system and cultural awareness guidance for use in the Middle East and Africa, leading on EHS strategy, and producing KPI reports for directors to detail EHS progress.
Achievements:
• Within 6 months of joining the business, I personally secured ISO 14001 certification for Head Office London and projects based in the Middle East and Africa. OM was the first Risk Management business unit to achieve ISO 14001 certification and maintain OHSAS 18001 and ISO 9001 Certification.
• Auditing of all OM projects in the Middle East and Africa whilst on country visits to ensure compliance with legislation, ISO and OHSAS standards, Client and G4S Risk Management requirements. This work was undertaken in a highly demanding and fast moving operational and commercial environment.
• EHS mobilisation for projects in South Sudan which included drafting and implementing policies and procedures,
delivering training for EHS induction to all staff, EHS training for the management team and food safety training for staff preparing food. This work has resulted in driving a change in mindset, increased commitment from the team, reduced staff turnover and compliance with client requirements.
Hotel chain providing sleeping accommodation, meeting facilities, licensed premises and food and beverage outlets
Appointed to the hotel chain at a critical time with responsibility to deliver a programme of improvements.
Achievements:
• Key member of the management team that won the EMEA Hotel of the Year 2011.
• Leading the hotel group through audits with the Fire Brigade, Environmental Health Officials and the Local Council with successful outcomes.
• Initiated and conducted a review of all health and safety policies, procedures and evacuation strategies to improve efficiency and standards, which resulted in the highest score of any hotel audited by the group in 2012.
• Designing and delivering health and safety training for all employees in subjects including manual handling, slips trips and falls, fire safety, security, crisis and bomb threats. This training enhanced staff understanding and increased guest confidence in the safety of the venue.
Further education facility, including student accommodation, laboratories and hospital wards
Selected to deliver enhanced performance in fire safety strategy for 5000 staff and more than 22000 students across 91 buildings in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Achievements:
• Leading on fire risk assessments and fire drills for all College buildings which include sleeping accommodation, offices, lecture theatres, laboratories, licensed premises and hospital areas.
• Planning, delivering and managing Practical Fire Extinguisher Training, Fire Safety Training and Evacuation Marshal Training to nominated staff and students and procuring and managing Online Fire Safety Training for all staff. This resulted in smooth running evacuations and those who were trained, were able to provide support and advice for those evacuating.
• Identifying requirements and drafting policy and procedural documents required for use in the College including Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans for staff and students who may require assistance to evacuate during a fire alarm activation.
• Investigating all fire alarm activations in College managed buildings and implementing management systems to prevent future fire alarm activations which resulted in a 15% reduction in unwanted fire alarm activations.
