Key Responsibilities as Senior Operations Officer (Apr 2018 till date):
• Review customer requirements and advice the sales team on port and vessel procedures in order to provide cost-effective solutions to clients.
• Plan, supervise and monitor shipping operations, track shipment data against KPIs and implement measures for process improvements.
• Manage in-transit cargo, working closely with stakeholders for on time cargo loading as well as arrival and clearance of shipments.
• Coordinate with 3rd party vendors, obtain rates for services, finalize contracts and administer contractors and monitor performance ensuring fulfillment of all contractual obligations.
• Plan movement of empty containers among multiple depots to meet export demand, optimize container inventory levels and minimize storage of idle containers.
• Prepare forecasts of export volumes, plan for required containers, monitor variances and work with operations to validate figures.
• Liaise with port authorities for allocation of resources based on forecasts of vessel moves to achieve productive vessel operations.
• Provide inputs for analyzing operational expenses including vessel utilization, productivity data and container damages.
• Monitor and ensure on time pick up of containers at terminals, update database and expedite flow to minimize detention costs.
• Support the vessel planner in developing quality stowage plans by collating and providing accurate outbound cargo data.
• Communicate vessel schedule to the terminal to ensure prompt berthing and coordinate with the master to adjust speed to reduce bunker costs.
• Provide value added recommendations to the terminal team with the aim of improving services while lowering costs.
• Share local information with the shipping line enabling effective schedule planning while at all times protecting the lines interests.
Finance and Administrative Support (February 2014 to date)
• Guide customers on required shipping documents and customs procedures ensuring resolution of issues before arrival of the vessel.
• Utilize the company’s system for updating shipment data as well as container movements and retrieve accurate reports
• Support the finance department in processing shore based terminal invoices and payments to 3rd party carriers.
