Abstract Abu-Jubeh, Mohammed Abdel-Karim Issa,"Time Dependent Electric Field under High Voltage Transmission Lines," Master Thesis. Yarmouk University, 2015 (Supervisor: Dr. Fathi K. Amoura) The growing concern regarding the health effects of the electric field resulting from the charges carried by the electrical power transmission lines surface necessitates a focus on the time varying nature of these fields. Effective values (root main square) of these fields do not reveal such valuable information. In this thesis, we deal with three main issues. The first presents a new method to calculate time dependent electric field around and near overhead transmission line, we expand charge simulation method (with image technique) to calculate time dependent value of the electric field for different towers design. The second is a comparison between different values of the electric field above ground level, where ground level is considered as a reference. The third issue is discussed by comparing values of electric fields (root main square) for different transposition configurations. 400kV OHTL conventional and compact designs are chosen for the purpose of this thesis. Compact design shows advantages over conventional design i.e. electric field is smaller. This means that compact design is the choice for future projects. The study shows that one arrangement of the six-transposition arrangements exhibits lowest electric fields i.e. it can be chosen, for lines when transposition cannot be applied. The study shows samples of time dependent electric field vector for one cycle. In some cases, it is a pulsating one and in other cases, it is a circle.
