The company is a family owned medium to large sized business which operates in the retail and manufacturing space.
The role involved a wide range of responsibilities which includes the following duties:
Manufacturing
- Currently responsible for the furniture manufacturing plant as GM reporting to the group MD.
- Develop and improve business processes
- Ensuring adequate policies and procedures in place
- Ensuring adequate financial controls in place
- Develop monthly financial reporting environment
- Advise on new business development opportunities
- Setting up of a manufacturing plant
- Responsible for the project management of the setup of the plant from selection of machinery to factory layouts.
- Completing financial feasibilities for the plant
- Developing and maintaining key supplier relationships
- Responsible for process of applying for government incentives
- Handling negotiations with suppliers and customers
- Preparing detail budgets and forecasts
Retail
- Advising on the company growth path
- Developing a business intelligence centre for the business
- Developing of new store layouts
- Currently have Finance, HR, IT, Risk reporting into me
- Actively involved in developing strategy of the business
- Developing branch accounting methodology for stores
- Developing monthly management reports
OTHER Major achievements:
- Achieving a triple increase in production volumes since taking up the role in September 2009.
- Achieving to double the groups retail turnover by assisting the CEO in identifying key growth areas.
- When I joined the company had 18 retail outlets. This has grown into 40 stores in three years.
- Board Member on the Retail Council for the South African Consumer Goods Council.
The role included the following duties:
- Management of accounts department for 5 retail branches

- Review of general ledger and hygiene of company accounts

Passed the 2 part board exams at the first attempt. First exam written in March 2005 and second exam written in 2006. Completed article program in December 2007.
Passed on the all courses on th first attempt. Awarded top ten award for research project for Financial Accounting II financial analysis project (2002). The project required a technical analysis on a company called Hudaco which is listed on the JSE.
