I then undertook the research by selecting ninety patients from diabetes clinic at Al-Kindy diabetes clinic with type 2 diabetes, who were over the age of thirty years and had diabetes for more than ten years, and fifty newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients. Together with trained staff, I used a standardised protocol to grade diabetic retinopathy and took the worst grade to either eye as the final grading level. I compared the retinal changes for newly diagnosed patients with those who have the disease for more than ten years. Student t-test and chi-square test were used for the statistical analysis. The research paper written on completion of the study.
