Held Water Scientist position at the Scottish water laboratories, responsible for analysis of drinking water whilst adhering to UKAS accredited lab quality & management systems. Working within a busy lab with a key responsibility of samples analysis, making judgements based on results obtained and providing the customer with interpretation, focusing on the protection of the public health. At the end of my career with Scottish Water company, I was involved deeply in the Scottish Water Process Technique as a Process Scientist, working with a team of highly qualified Water Scientists, our main aim was to control and monitor all the water and waste water treatment plants and check samples from different treatment stages, troubleshooting and provide immediate problem solving. Moreover, expanding from my previous experience in working with SHELL’s Produced Water Management project in the North Sea, I used my skills at Scottish Water to Participate in HAZOP, HAZID risk assessment studies.

Chief Process Engineer at State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP)
  • Iraq - Baghdad
  • January 1989 to January 2007

SCOP offered me Chief Engineer in the Process Engineering Department/Design Centre. I led a group of engineers, responsible about the process and utility designs.

My responsibility was the Process & utility units design such de-gasing / gas compression stations design, water treatment units, water injection, soft water, compressed air, deaerated water, fire water system and fire water network.

My tasks consisted of calculating and preparing the designs requirements from the project site such as material and heat balance and then selecting the suitable process. Following that, the next step is selecting the material of the equipment and including further details such as pressure drop calculation, thickness of the material depending on the information which I used to collect from the sites visits or from the Technical Study Department Guides; which they provide the manufacturer details of design equipment like: pumps, tanks, vessels, piping and instruments (pressure, safety and control valves, level gages) and then draw all the engineering drawings like P&ID’s, PFD’s, block diagrams and equipment drawings by using AUTOCAD software.
Following on, preparing the process of the project tender, this gave me a number of opportunities to take part in various panels to study the technical offers from the clients and select the best offer according to design’s standards and specifications. Following that, the next stage is to be responsible for specification, selection and requisition of materials and plant for use in the build of Heat Exchangers, Boilers, Pumps, Compressors, Chillers, Filters, Controls and other Instrumentation. This also included design of heat recovery, heat rejection, hot water, chilled water, steam, noise attenuation and ventilation systems through technical calculations and assessments including safety assessments.
Furthermore, my next responsibility was to develop conceptual designs into detail designs to fully meet the functional and conceptual specification of secured and tendered projects in an efficient manner to add value to the business. Following that, my next stage is to write start up procedure to help the operators and site engineers during the test run and normal operation. My role also included providing technical support to the Project Manager during the installation commissioning and testing phase of the project, ensuring the timely production of all necessary documentation.

After the design stage, I was involved with the construction team and then the operators and site engineer to start the test run. My role included meet the clients / manufacturers to negotiate about the details and sometimes change the equipment specification.
