Mark Cables is part a larger conglomerated of companies with head quarters in South Africa and interests that range all over the African Continent. Early 2014 the company decide to further invest in the cable manufacturing business. A new production unit was to be built in Dubai and stalled plant in Angola was to be put to operational readiness. Th2 Dubai unit constructions started in mid 2014. Continuous production operation started in this plant in October 2016
Industrial Plant Project ⏵ Project leadership ⦁ Plant layout development ⦁ Conception of plant cooling network for machinery (extrusion Process and Wire Drawing) ⦁ Establish and tracks key milestones ⦁ Prioritize objectives adjusting resources focus ⦁ Budgets preparation, tracks actual project status and report on variations and slippages ⦁ Review and approve Contractor's payment in line with estimated work completion ⦁ Equipment reception and movement to site ⦁ Liaison with local authorities, consultants and contractors facilitating interactions ⦁ Inspects constructed works to ensure that it is in accordance with the shop drawings and specifications ⦁ Review equipment's to ensure that they are in accordance with the specifications ⦁ Attend regular meetings with the Construction team to report on progress and help resolve issues where they arise ⦁ Overall contractor work reception and approval ⦁ Manage performance and salaries of staff, hiring, firing, coaching and mentoring for career and skills development, and arranging training.
Plant Operation Startup ⏵ Develop operational plans for plant commissioning & testing that meet limitations (energy, raw material & specialized labor) ⦁ Outsource part of the production process to allow machine operation in multiple stages of the process ⦁ Machine overall operational reception ⦁ Direction & coordination of logistics, operation, testing and maintenance.

General cable (GC) started in New jersey in 1927 with the merging of several smaller companies. Over the next 0ver 90 years the company grow to a world wide dimension, reaching the rank of third biggest cable manufacturers in the world. In Angola, the production unit was a old installation, put in placed by Portugal investors, while the country was still a Portuguese colony. The big challenge was to improve the current facilities and use available equipment available from other group companies to enhance installed capacity.
Production Management ⏵ Direct and coordinate production ⦁ Day to day plant fallow up ⦁ Week planning (24H - 6D) ⦁ Month planning ⦁ Raw material control and needs forecast ⦁ Liaise with sales team for overall product stock definition ⦁ Assure staff cleanliness and alcohol free environment ⦁ Control material stock on the shop floor at any given moment to avoid theft ⦁ Capex project definition and coordination ⦁ Production & Maintenance budget: Elaboration and control ⦁ Fallow up product testing along each production stage (100% product testing) ⦁ Logistic control of the material deliveries (Portugal to Angola).
Maintenance & Engineering ⏵ Machine improvement plan elaboration and execution ⦁ Assure energy supply to plant (diesel generator) ⦁ CCTV network and equipment maintenance ⦁ IT management ⦁ New equipment reception and overall commissioning ⦁ Facilities management: cleaning, repair and expansion. Maintenance & Engineering ⏵ The annual Maintenance budget for the production Units (3 units) ⦁ Monitoring developments with quarterly reporting ⦁ Developing year investment plans for equipment & installation ⦁ Coordination of multidisciplinary teams ⦁ Lead new processes and/or products ⦁ Training of operators & maintenance team⦁ Monitoring of production processes ⦁ Liaise with the hotel division for water supply requirements and general maintenance needs ⦁ Equipment optimization (mainly Krones) ⦁ Elaboration of a maintenance plans for all the equipment and facilities ⦁ Economic evaluation of changes and preparation of tender documents ⦁ Mineral water caption ⦁ Mineral water and pumping via pipeline back to storage facility ⦁ Mineral water degassed with CO2 stripping ⦁ CO2 capture, treatment and liquefaction for purification and storage ⦁ Industrial water caption.
