Roles & Responsibilities in General Clinic: -

• Assessment of the Patients.
• Taking Vital Signs (Blood pressure, Temperature, Pulse, Respiration, Saturation)
• Taking Weight, Height and Body mass Index.
• Taking ECG.
• Doing Spirometry.
• Inserting IV Cannula, Giving Intramuscular Injections, Subcutaneous Injections, Intravenous Injections and Vaccinations for adult.
• Cleaning and doing dressing for the Wound
• Assisting Doctors for Suturing.

Roles & Responsibilities in Operation Room: -

• Arranging surgery room, surgical instruments before surgery.
• Receiving patient, checking consent form and reviewing patient history.
• Takes and monitors patient’s vital signs.
• Conducts pre- and post-operative education.
• Gives emotional support to the patient and family.
• Ensures that operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed.
• Assists in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient.
• Support Anesthetist and prepare necessary instruments, drugs.
• Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis.
• Follows principles of aseptic techniques in performing surgical scrub, setting instruments, gowning, gloving as needed for the procedure.
• Observes, checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly.
• Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
• Assist as a circulatory or scrub nurse.
• Selects and handles instruments and supplies used for the operation, passing them to surgeon.
• Report any untoward reactions of patient to the surgeon or anesthesiologist.
• Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol.
• Inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery.
• Administer oxygen therapy and suctions of secretions if required.
• Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
• Monitoring Patient after Surgery and shifting to Post Anaesthetic care unit as Doctors order.
