I created a subsection of SAS-AIChE in Yanbu with the goal of covering the western region of Saudi Arabia.
I lead a team of engineers from many companies, and we attract speakers and sponsors to create mini conference style technical dinner meetings. The speakers we attracted were either CEOs or Vice Presidnets of local and national companies.
Managing a team of technical engineers to support one of the largest integrated petrochemical plants in the world. In addition to that, I have lead several projects either in-house or with contractors to achieve project objectives on time and within budget.
Responsible for optimizing the main plant in Yanbu Industrial City, optimization projects include leading a team of experts to revamp the current Multivariable Controllers and generating an additions 5 million dollars of revenue.
Projects also include Alarm Managment where I am responsible for leading a multidiciplinary team to minimize alarms which inturn optimizes the plant operations.
Duties included designing new control systems, upgrading old and obsolete control systems, advising clients on new and improved ways to better control an operating plant/unit to achieve a more stable operation and operate at known constraints.
Projects that I worked on include:
o Mt Isa copper concentrator control system upgrade.
o Lead engineer for Queensland Energy Resources (QER) Shale Oil technical demonstration plant at Gladstone Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system design.
o QER control system configuration.
o Murray Goulburn evaporator and dryer control optimization project to increase the throughput of the unit and provide a more stable operation for the plant at Koroit, Victoria.
o Mt Isa refrigeration unit control system upgrade.
o Murrumba Downs water treatment plant control system configuration, upgrade, and pre-installation checks.
o Detecting short circuits in copper refinery cells using non-linear modeling software.
o Modeling drilling data for Mezurex’s oil drilling project in the Gulf of Mexico using non-linear modeling software.
o Procurement, follow up and warranty extension on material, valves, various control and electrical parts for the Kazzinc copper and lead smelters.
In charge of the Yanbu Gas Plant (YGP) control applications and the Advanced Process Control applications. Duties include:
o developing/improving/maintaining applications which improve process, increase efficiency, and save costs. The last accomplishment in this area is:
- Lead engineer in charge of developing the YGP Multi Variable Controllers, an automated computer program that is used to actively change the parameters on the gas plant columns to optimize operation with an estimated increase in profits by at least $1000, 000/YR
o Lead engineer for the Enterprise Monitoring Solution, a web based MIS application that connects the numerous Saudi Aramco e-business systems into one meaningful internal webpage.
o Director of the YGP long term and short term Advanced Process Control plan used to develop new business ideas and in identifying opportunities
o Developed and acted as mentor for young engineers
o Established ongoing relations with vendors and experts for support
provided technical advice to the feed receiving, distributing and product delivery area of the Saudi Aramco Yanbu Gas Plant. Duties included ensuring quality of feed stock from suppliers and product quality to customers along with analyzing the plant material balance and indices, as well as troubleshooting process and mechanical failures.
This degree was completed as a self development initiative. The university of Hull offers a distance teaching program in which instructors come to Saudi Arabia every six weeks for three full days of lecturing. In other words they bring the university to the student. 60% grade (B average in the british system)
Full University scholarship from Saudi Aramco
