Name of Institution: M.S. Ramaiah Institute Of Technology, Bangalore Branch of Specialization: Mechanical Engineering University: VTU, Belgaum Score: 66.6% Year of Graduation: 2007 Academic Projects and Seminars Academic Project: "Magnetic Levitation Using Laminated Aluminum Track and Halbach Array" as a part of Undergraduate Coursework. Description: The Objective of our Project was to design a rotary Inductrack for the demonstration of Magnetic Levitation Using Only Permanent Magnets. Neodymum-Iron-Boron Permanent Magnets were arranged in a Halbach Array which concentrated the fields to act along just 1 face of the magnetic array. Laminated Aluminum strips cut and slotted to dimensions to fit around the diameter of the hind wheel of a motorcycle forming a rotary inductrack. The magnets were suspended freely at a distance of around 2 mm from the surface of the inductrack. As the wheels rotated at speeds slightly above 9m/s Levitation Height of Close to 6 mm was achieved. The Project team was awarded the Founder's Cash Prize for uniqueness of the concept and Method of Execution. Seminars Delivered: "Electro-Magnetic Forming" as part of the Undergraduate Coursework.
