Senior Engineer-Electrical at THE TRAVANCORE COCHIN CHEMICALS LTD
  • India
  • June 2009 to March 2015

• Headed the operation and maintenance of all the critical electrical equipments (Both HV & LV) effectively and minimized the down time to 12 Hrs /Annum.

• Achieved a reduction of 8% in the auxiliary energy consumption by implementing SCADA based energy monitoring system and conducting energy audits. With this the present auxiliary energy consumption has come down to 38000 Units from 41500 Units.

• Developed a load Vs Consumption algorithm for most economical operation of the plant. With the zone based billing pattern of the state electricity company, the energy consumption during peak hours will be charged 140% more than normal hours. To overcome this, a load Vs consumption algorithm has been formulated, with which, the plant load condition shall be controlled, for most economical operation. This effort has reflected as 15 Lakhs saving in each month energy bill.

• Implemented state of the art condition monitoring system for critical equipments viz. rectifier and power transformers, which prevented the major failure of one of the rectifier transformers during 2012 and thereby saved 5 crore of rupees. The frequency of condition monitoring of critical transformers have been rescheduled to once in three months, with this effort the development of serious faults can be identified in advance and can save the equipment from complete breakdown.

• Undertaken and completed the renovation projects in time. Installation of 5 No.s 350 KVAr APFC panels, ATS, 8 No.s of 415Volts PMCC panels, EOT Crane Control Panels, 1000 KVA transformer, HV CTs, PTs, ABT meter etc are some of the renovation projects executed, during this period. This has improved the reliability and reduced the break down.

• Controlled the inventory of materials and spares by effective material planning. This has reduced the procurement of spares and there by revenue loss. This has been achieved by, cutting down the procurement of a multiple brands by one or two most popular and reliable brands which exactly suits the requirement.

• Mediated and resolved many HR related issues and cultivated service centered attitude to the employees.

• Managed a team of 45+ members for efficient execution of operations and maintenance and projects.

• Executed the erection, testing and commissioning of 300 TPD Horizontal saturator in 2010 and 5TPD sodium Chlorate Plant in 2013.Since it has been done in house, the additional expenditure for hiring commissioning engineers were saved.

• Authored the operational manual for rectifier operation.

• Conducted training on “effective operational and maintenance practices” for employees. With this the operators could do their work with much more confidence and this has reduced the plant interruptions due to mal operations to 0%.
