Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec)

Doha, Qatar

August 2012 - Present

QSTec is building the first Polysilicon Plant of 8000 MTPY capacity in GCC for Solar applications. It is based on Direct Chlorination FBR and Siemens CVD Technology provided by SiTec Centrotherm, Germany. It is a Zero Discharge facility, with all the gaseous and aqueous waste being treated and recovered to regulatory levels.
Highlights:
 Pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities of various process units.
 Review of EPC and licensor documents related to process and control system.
 Hazop and SIL study of process units and utilities.
 Preparation of commissioning and start-up scenarios and detailed operational evaluation.
 Implementation of SAP for end-to-end production process (PP Module) as super user. Activities include preparation of Master Data, BOM, Master Recipe, and integration with other SAP modules.
 Procurement of operational chemicals, consumables and spares; from developing tender strategy to finalization of contract with various vendors.
 Perform FAT and SAT for process equipment and control system.
 Conducting international recruitment campaigns to interview and hire operations staff.
 Development of Procedure Management System. Preparation and review of Standard Operating Procedures.
 Preparing technical data for various QSTec interface entities such as Qatar Petroleum, Gasal.

Woongjin Polysilicon Co. Ltd.

Korea (South)

September 2010 - December 2011

Woongjin Polysilicon use Direct Chlorination process in FBR to produce Trichlorosilane (TCS) which is then fed to Siemens CVD Reactors for Polysilicon production. Facility also include Off-Gas Recovery (OGR), Converters and Utilities.
Highlights:
 Process Simulation, Rating and Process conditions optimization of TCS & OGR distillation columns using Aspen Plus™.
Different operational scenarios for distillation column operation were examined for reduced energy consumption and higher product purity using Aspen Plus. Varying feed compositions were used to develop optimum set of operating conditions.
 Developed rating simulation for OGR system for capacity enhancement. All columns, exchangers, pipes, pumps and instruments were rated against increased feed load. Equipment causing bottlenecking were identified.
 CVD reactor operating conditions optimization for improved yield and energy efficiency.
 Equilibrium calculations for CVD reactor & STC converter by minimization of Gibbs Free Energy.
 Team member for process development for production of granular Polysilicon from monosilane using FBR.
 Pinch analysis and heat integration of heat exchanger network using Aspen Energy Analyzer.

September 2008 - May 2010

Intelligent Process System Laboratory, Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea.

Korea (South)

September 2008 - May 2010

Intelligent Process System (IPS) Laboratory is working under the supervision of Prof. Han Chonghun (Sc.D. MIT, USA). It focuses on Process Design, Simulation & Optimization, Process Monitoring & Fault Diagnostic, and Carbon Capture & Storage. IPS Lab works in close collaboration with industries.
I worked with following companies for their projects with IPS Lab:

 For Woongjin Polysilicon Co. Ltd:
Worked with Woongjin Polysilicon during design and construction phase. Developed simulation model for purification and recovery distillation trains and analyze the design at various load conditions using Aspen Plus™.
 For OCI Chemicals:
Developed simulation model for OCI BTX facility using Aspen Plus™. Worked in close collaboration with OCI to ensure that model is representing actual operational data. Simulation included use of custom binary interaction parameters for solvent (Sulfolane) in extractive distillation column.
 For Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS):
A dynamic simulation of LNG unloading and storage terminal was developed using Aspen Hysys™. Effect of temperature and pressure variations on the transport properties of LNG was studied.
