Lead Director/Consultant for the Business operations
Responsible for the country production facilities (Riyadh and Jazan) for one of the largest precast concrete company in the Middle East. RDB-El Seif has a workforce of approximately 3500. The primary company focus is on the production of precast concrete units for the housing sector.
The production facilities produce a range of products using the 24 numbers of fully automated Hollowcore lines (each 150m in length), to the Tilting tables for precast concrete facade panels, TT, beams and columns.
The production team covers several nationalities from European to Asian. As facility Director, I am responsible for ensuring that the facility is operating an optimal from cost-effectiveness to quality and profitability. Also bringing together and foster teamwork both with internal and external stakeholders.
Projects included but not limited too;
1-MOI Housing Project \[Jizan Area- 338 Villas & 227 Apartment Blocks\];
2-MOI Housing Project \[Sharoura Area- 159 Villas & 107 Apartment Blocks\].
Brought on board to direct and develop operations for 27 business entities across the Middle East, Levant, Europe and Africa, operating as part of the 63rd globally ranked coatings company. This includes full P&L accountability, with revenue equating to +US$190M and oversight of 600 FTE.
Critical to my success has been the ability to ensure robust financial control, optimise operational performance and establish a highly-skilled staff team. Further, my strategic approach and strong negotiation skills have secured major contracts, thereby ensuring sustainability and business growth.
Highlights include:
- Harmonised Group functions via a major organisational restructure, inclusive of procedures, R&D strategy and ISO quality standards.
- Secured 150% EBITDA growth, 130% net profit growth and 60% sales growth during tenure, with the company ranking as a top 100 coatings company at #63.
- Established Group corporate governance to facilitate business growth and compliance in addition to implementing consolidated financial reporting, auditing, banking facilities and KPI monitoring.
- Responded to a substantial factory fire at a core facility by orchestrating a factory rebuild and winning the award for the insurance claim following initial rejection.
- Launched new plants in challenging countries and secured distributors covering over 30 countries.
- Closed major, long-term supplier contracts and won exclusivity with vital regional suppliers.
- During transition phase took on the additional responsibilitiy of acting Group CFO for almost one year whilst simultaneously maintaining the role of Group General Manager.
- Installed and successfully commissioned Sage ERP system and Business Intelligence Reporting Systems for the Group. This included production, storage, services and trading process along with the associated soft services.
Directed operations as part of a joint venture between Al Futtaim (investments, retail, construction, motor industry) and Exova Group (laboratory testing provider). This involved oversight of numerous P&L sectors, delivery of a complex organisational restructure as well as providing strategic input to the Board on budgets, Capex initiatives and business planning.
Highlights include:
- Transformed performance for a core business site via cost control and service diversification - with 65% cost reduction achieved via headcount reduction from 380 to 150.
- Project Lead for numerous, notable developments, including Burj Khalifa, Dubai Festival City, Atlantis Hotel and the Dubai Metro; the largest single worldwide contract for Exova Group.
- Boosted growth YoY via business process optimisation - with 60% EBITDA growth from 2011 to 2013.
- Significantly reduced DSO from 200 days to 70 days during tenure as Managing Director.
- Diversified the client base, from 80% reliance on 3 clients, to maximum client contribution of 5% of overall sales revenue.
- Rebranded corporate ownership from Bodycote to Exova with zero disruption to operations and full retention of clients.
General Manager for a business start-up, involving the end-to-end project management of testing services for multi-million-dollar construction contracts. I established strong relationships and secured approvals with Government entities, as well as transitioning the company to a diverse, multi-sector laboratory, thereby establishing a lucrative and profitable enterprise.
Highlights include:
- Recognised as the leading laboratory in the country and the first ISO17025 registered laboratory with Ashghal.
- Diversified operations to a commercial, multidisciplinary facility, with sales growth of 750% realised within 18 months and several major agreements secured, including the New Doha International Airport.
- Ensured Bodycote Qatar was one of the highest margin businesses in the Group via intelligent pricing and market strategy
Acted as Technical representative/consultant for Redland precast concrete and China Resources (CR) Cement. Established systems for the first operations of CR cement in 2003 which at the time was a start-up, now is globally ranked in the top 10 producers of Cement.
Worked as Operations Manager/Technical Executive/General Manager for the company. Responsible for all operations of the laboratory (both Hong Kong and China)and including handling dealings with government authorities, accreditation bodies ISO 25 (now ISO 17025) accreditation and of course clients/staff.
Projects included West Rail, East Rail, Ting Kau Bridge, Tai Lam Tunnel, Hong Kong International Airport and Hong Kong Disneyland. Establishment and assistance of monitoring various project site facilities including the largest precast concrete facility in Southern China (Redland Precast) and Redland Concretes 17 concrete batching plants.
