Creating new SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
Creating new plant and equipment blank/spade list’s
Creating new CTO’s (Critical Task Observations)
Creating new TRA’s (Task Risk Assessments)
Doing punches on the completed systems and updating of punch list’s
Doing loop checks on completed instrument loops
Issue production Hot and Cold work permits, isolation certificates, safety system override certificates etc also performed duties as permit coordinator, registering all departments’ permits etc. Custodian of lock out box system controlling issue and receiving of lock out keys.
Compile detailed Production report and chemical reports and send to Production Superintendant after every shift ends. Supervise control room operators and outside technicians and encourage good team spirit.
Optimize production rates without compromising safety of personal, the environment as well as any equipment. Do general fault finding during units upsets/trips and rectify situations where needed. Give clear and understandable instructions and orders to subordinates.
Ensure minimum production downtime by taking preventative measures. Ensure safe start up in the shortest time possible to minimize loss of production/revenue.
Optimize all chemical injection rates to keep products on specification and reduce chemical costs
Ensure that product specs are met and remedy any deviations from specs.
Ensure lab results are accurate and do rechecks of BS&W, density. RVP and water quality etc. if required.
Make out loss reports and state reasons for plant trips and calculate production loss.
Training and regular theoretical/practical evaluation of shift members.
Conduct inspections - Operations & HSE.
Coordinate and control the shutdown activities.
Develop and implement procedures and plans to minimize incidents on the work site.
Manage product and equipment deviations and failures.
Training & Assessment / mentoring of team members to internationally accredited standards

Monitor and operate process units via DCS panel (FOXBORO and HONEYWELL)
Announcement/instructions during emergency situations on Public Address system.
Monitor plant conditions and adjust process as required. Operate plant according to operating instructions.
Liaise with Storage/Tank Department for correct tank space and during product transfers.
Liaise closely with electrical department before stop/starting any electrical equipment to ensure adequate spinning reserve (electrical power).
Maintain highest level of safety of personnel and operate units in such a manner that there is no danger to personnel, environment and plant/equipment.
Complete and keep all relevant registers/documentation up to date e.g.
Fire and gas override register and alarm suppression register.
Write detailed shift log handover stating all events/occurrences e.g. choke movements and unit trips.
Give complete and comprehensive verbal shift handover to oncoming shift personnel.
Fire and Gas panel operator, monitor all fire, smoke and gas detectors. Respond to alarms and manage any upsets. Maintain firewater and foam pump on standby at all times and ensure fire and gas protection systems are available at all times.
Do weekly emergency exercises and simulate real emergency situations eg: Major gas leak and fires.
Give correct and clear instructions of work to be carried out to outside production technicians. Follow up all work to be done. Ensure outside techs understand instructions before work takes place.
Attend safety meetings and toolbox talk and give positive input towards safety and optimum plant operations.
Train new Senior Operators on DCS system and supervise new Senior Operators.
