Position Purpose: To operate, provide service and ensure reliable electricity to customers by building, operating, and maintaining distribution assets whilst enhancing stakeholder relations.
Position Outputs:
Strategy & Risk
• Ensure alignment of Operating Unit with Distribution Eskom’ s vision
• Developing and implementing Zero harm strategies to employees, contractors, the public and the natural resources and implementation of Safety Procedures in accordance with Legal and Statutory requirements
• Develop customer and public education and awareness strategies and ensure participation in all levels
• Identifying and managing the business risks across the operating unit by implementing controls or eliminating risks.
• Reducing System Average Interruption Duration Index SAIFI and System Average Interruption Frequency SAIFI to comply with NERSA Target by implementing operational excellence strategies
• Integrating business support partners(HR, IM, Commercial Finance) to ensure business productive efficiency and draw and manage SLAs with business support partners
• Managing long-term network performance sustainability
• Roll-out and implement new DX Operating model and conclude the transformation structures
• Developing and implementing strategies to retain scarce skills in the operating unit such as artisans, engineers and technician.
• Technical Initiatives and strategies to reduce revenue losses for the operating unit.

Operations/Value Delivery
• Resource modelling & balancing by integrating and direct the Operating Unit current and direct resources
• Ensure all the artisans are authorised accordingly to operate networks at different levels
• Co-ordinate operations and maintenance technical support unit in conjunction with Engineering and Asset Management team
• Optimize the operations of operating, maintenance and outage processes in the Operating Unit
• Directing sound Technical Asset performance in the Operating Unit
• Champions improvements in the operating unit
• Accountable for the delivery of Asset Creation programs
• Identify key talent for coaching and mentoring with the operating and maintenance environment and implement strategies for employees development(e.g. training matrix)
• Financial controls and governance
Industry Support and Stakeholder Management
• Analyse and package research data, trends challenges within other Operating Unit and other industries and come up with initiatives to address the identified issues.
• Present the research finds and initiatives to relevant stakeholders within Distribution and in broader Eskom as an input to strategy and policy
• Building relationships with relevant provincial government functionaries
• Provide input to local government infrastructure forums
• Manage technical interactions with customers to increase customer satisfaction

The primary purpose of this position was to ensure that all engineering activities within South Africa are performed to support the business in a safe and efficient manner following the processes that are defined by the Group.
Logistics & Supply Chain Management
• Managing petrochemical depots overall supply chain and logistics strategy and operations to maximise the process efficiency in productivity
• Ensures alignment among all operations' policies, procedures and ongoing improvement projects and operations.
• Understands and applies the 5 LEAN principles including but not limited to workflow smoothing,
Six Sigma, Value-Stream Mapping and 5S.
• Documents and communicates common processes for all functions within scope of responsibility
• Communicates opportunities for improvement in the distribution network / depots environment
• Responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring overall supply chain strategy at the depots.
• Determine key supply chain KPIs
• Identify process bottlenecks and implement solution timeously
• Ensures all system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., depots warehouse management, labour management).
• Performs special research or technical studies critical to logistic support functions
• Performs cost/benefit trade-off analysis and develops ROI business cases for recommended projects involving process, system or technology change •

Operation & Maintenance Management
• Relentlessly drives performance on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis;
• Ensure that all best practices are applied in respect to Project Management (CVP), Procurement, Maintenance, Work Planning & Control, Tender Procedures, Contractor Management and HSE Assurance;
• Develops and improves capability to deliver more effective and efficient maintenance for Depots in area (people, process, tools);
• Fully integrates maintenance into wider depot context (operations, asset management, optimization, budgets);
• Standardize, simplify and remove defects in work processes and hardware;
• Be accountable for Control of Work implementation within South Africa.
• Co-ordinates, controls and manage all aspects of the maintenance and operations of gantries and all depots infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with BP policy, controls, audit and legal requirements and effect for non-compliance.

Accountable for developing, implementing, managing and maintaining of
professional project support strategies, services and controls necessary for the success of the multi
million expansion portfolio per region.
Position Outputs
Manage Portfolio Accounting, Costing and Cost Control Systems by:
* Ensuring global view of all projects underway with reference to cost across the region
* Consolidating expenditure progress into meaningful regional KPI's Formulation and dissemination
of project costing and cost control policy, practices, procedures and systems
* Provide financial adjudication/evaluation services on all commitments to the project
* Provide a control systems for all internal and external cost from and to the project
* Coordinate, prepare and validate the cash in and out flow requirements for submission to the
applicable Investment committee's
* Developing and maintaining project cost control schedules
* Coordinating, controlling and modifying changes on approved business and rolling plans
* Develop and maintain appropriate systems for best Project Management cost support
Manage Project Planning and Schedule Control Systems by:
* Ensuring an global view of all projects underway with reference to time across the region
* Consolidating time related progress into meaningful Divisional KPI's Formulation and
dissemination of project planning and schedule control policy, practice, procedures and systems
Establish Project Cost Estimation by:
* Formulation and dissemination of project estimation policy, practices, procedures and systems (Costing
Engine)
* Establish and maintain a cost database
* Provide Quantity Surveying and Estimating services
Establish Project Contracting by:
* Formulation and dissemination of contract management policy, practices, procedures and systems
* Ensuring specialization resides in the organization to develop robust contracts and to lead disputes.

Ensuring that the capital investment process is effectively managed and all capital
and other projects are completed on time, within cost and quality is achieved employing all resources
optimally both inside and outside the total engineering area

* Implementing and managing group strategies and policies for a cost effective Capital
Investment Process and programme in the Transmission Central Grid. •Ensuring meaningful
influence to the work under construction business plan for the engineering area.
* Maintaining tight discipline and control areas of responsibility, ensuring at all times that
capital programme is adhered to, costs and wastage are minimized and that optimal balance
between cost, time and quality is achieved.
* Ensuring that all capital projects are completed on time, within cost and quality constrains.
* Implementing standard project management tools and system and work practices throughout
the grid.
* Ensuring the commissioning and placing into commercial operation of all new assets.
* Analysing internal and external environment in order to optimally employ all resources.
* Applying relevant project management key performance indicators.
* Continuously audits all aspects of capital investment process and ensures recommendations
are effectively implemented.

Distribution
Position Purpose: To ensure that plant maintenance is planned and optimized in order to meet set
performance standards.
Position Outputs:
OPTIMISES MAINTENANCE BY:
* analysing plant maintenance and performance data
* Managing Reliability Centered Maintenance (or similar) studies to identify maintenance
requirements
* determining and continually revising maintenance tasks providing input into, and
managing the implementation of, maintenance policy, standards and guidelines
* determining maintenance KPIs and setting targets
* determining maintenance information requirements analysing life cycle costs
* Providing high level plant expertise to other Engineering groups.
PLANS MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS BY:
* ensuring inputs from all stake-holders are coordinated
* ensuring the negotiations of time frames with all stakeholders
* determining overall resource requirements for planned maintenance
* managing the maintenance planning process
* Ensure maintenance activities are monitored against plans and that corrective action is
initiated.
PLANS REFURBISHMENT REQUIREMENTS BY:
* providing input into, and managing the implementation of refurbishment policy and
guidelines
* Ensuring inputs from all stakeholders are coordinated
* managing the integration of maintenance and refurbishment plans
* developing refurbishment master plans providing refurbishment for the 5 year capital

To perform reactor physics tasks related to reactor fuel engineering including
reactor safety, licensing and implementation of fuel strategies and the acquisition and
maintenance of operational reactor physics software.
