Sr. N/W Engineer, BRT IndiA (on contract with HCL); 20May2013—18Mar2015

Part of the Global IT-Networks Business On-boarding team, role: Network design, implementation and project coordination
End-to-end network design., Prepared RFP, HLD, LLD using Visio, & BOM, raised change/incident requests, and coordinated with various stakeholders until successful implementation & UAT. Was involved in Microsoft azure express route setups, IPSEC (Client-to-Site / Site-to-Site) / MPLS L3 VPNs, shared/dedicated LANs, and thin client/zero client/VDI based connectivity. Project categories include Project Expansion / Redesign / Migration / New Setup etc.
Work on projects assigned by the Networks Manager, approx. 10 projects worked at a time
Project Life cycle - Attend calls organized by the project manager, understand the business requirement from networks perspective, and draft a high-level design (HLD) and solution accordingly with tentative quotes, The HLD may be revised further based on discussions with Business
Once the HLD is finalized, firm quotes/BOMs are obtained from respective vendors for LAN/WLAN/WAN inventory and links
A low-level design (LLD) and solution is then prepared and shared along with the firm quote to give a more clearer picture to the Business on the costs involved, solution benefits, and timelines involved, dependencies from the business on certain factors such as local on-site or off-shore infra readiness before link deployment, demark agreements, legal formalities with merging the MPLS VRF of two different service providers or between two different entities (example India and UK) of the same provider
Regular meetings held to update the link/hardware delivery/implementation progress
Install and configure new devices that include Cisco IOS or Juniper EX/MX devices, configured protocols such as OSPF, BGP and MPLS
ITIL change management process is followed for all backbone/operational changes such as adding a new VLAN / VRF for the new customer, assigning BW to the customer VRF, capacity management to cater BW forecasts, adding IPVPN routes for the customer destinations towards the shared internet gateway, and coordination is done with respective stakeholders and the required configuration is shared with them in predefined templates
A project ends when the networks perspective changes are all completed and formal UAT is obtained, and that newly brought up / modified network setup is handed over to the global NOC team through a call where a relevant document with all the details is shared and explained
Additional work handled for the internal team: Weekly review of projects handled by all the members and to report highlights/challenges to the management, took interviews occasionally to pick right talent based on the skill requirements
