The role entails managing and supporting a portfolio of countries in Sub-Saharan Africa for Personal & Business Banking segments. Core deliverables entail risk appetite setting, acquisition strategies, ECM, collection & recoveries, periodic portfolio performance review, monitoring, assurance & conformance, internal & external audit and regulatory reports, portfolio reporting and end-to-end credit life cycle management.
Core deliverables entail developing and communicating portfolio level credit views, identifying emerging portfolio and market trends, and providing perspective on anticipated portfolio performance and ensuring teams execute proactive risk mitigants for the subsidiary banks in ROA.

Secondment assignment to establish the Head of Credit position (Retail & Business Banking), heading-up a team that supports front Line on a daily basis in meeting the credit, operational and compliance risks aspects. Key credit risk activities included risk expansion programs, ECM, M&S, portfolio & impairments management and credit workouts. Facilitated portfolio quality reports to all country & centre risk committees up to board level.
Responsible for managing Retail & Business Banking Credit teams and exposures in African subsidiaries by ensuring compliance with Group Standards, local regulatory requirements and best practice. The portfolio covered 7 African countries .
• The role entails periodic portfolio performance review, monitoring, reporting and end to-end credit life cycle management across Retail & Business Banking customer segments.
• Credit reporting leadership and policy guidance for all the Retail & Business Banking lending businesses. Covering Unsecured Personal Loans, Vehicle Finance, Mortgages, Credit Cards, Overdrafts, and the Small to Medium Enterprises facilities.
• Voting member of the ABC holdings Retail & Business Banking Credit Committee to approve new risk expansion portfolio proposals, credit policies, impairments, and collections initiatives.
• Monitoring the credit risk profile exposure of Retail & Business Banking lending businesses. Portfolio Management, Including Provisioning, Recoveries, and Write Offs.
• Model committee member that reviews impairment rates, LGD, PDs, EADs, etc. Impairments / Provisioning, and Risk Models, RAROC, RORWA and ROE target models, including consumer scorecards.
• Project sponsorship and ownership of Credit Systems innovation projects
• Generate Group Board Retail & Business Banking report covering credit portfolio trends, quality, and impairments adequacy, assurance, conformance, audit & regulatory reports etc.
• Oversee the Credit Administration function, which includes credit policy, exception tracking, and quality of loan packages.
Project executive during the IFC's two-and-a-half year advisory services support as delivered through the Africa Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (AMSME) Program. The program was successful in all operating countries.
Member of the Risk Management Committee and Executive Management Team with primary responsibility for Credit Department including department budget, loan volume and credit quality forecast, staff training and development, succession planning, Allowance for Loan Loss, loan growth, credit quality and loan profitability goal setting and tracking.
•Grew Unsecured Loan book from a zero base to ~R1billion in 3 years achieving profitability in 15 months.
Developed Financing Proposals which led to the successful granting of Revolving Offshore Loan Facilities of US$15 and US$10 million respectively.
•Pro-actively manage corporate accounts portfolio, ensuring adherence to Credit Policy & Philosophy.
•Preparing Financing Proposals and making recommendations to Credit Committee, Compile reviews, amendments and new applications to the appropriate mandate level lending authorities.
•Analysing client year end financial statements, management accounts, budgets and cash flow projections in respect of credit facilities required.
•Analysing company returns; comparing performance with covenants
•Calculating credit risk metrics, PDs, LGDs, EAD and ROEC/RAROC using specialized finance models.
•Analysing the impact of debt and equity financing on capital and ownership structures.
•Analyzing various risks inherent to the business comprising industry, business, market, repayment and security risks among others.
•Monitoring of facility utilization by clients & provide regular feedback reports to senior management and the Credit Committee on the status of the portfolio.
•Writing Facility Letters & have thorough understanding of legal issues relating to credit agreements

Carried out financial statement analysis. Using financial analysis techniques such as analysis, ratio analysis, horizontal analysis, vertical analysis, index analysis and give an informed position with respect to future financial strength, debt service ability, liquidity, solvency and profitability of a borrowing customer.
•Assess customers’ cash flow projections and give advice on whether the projections are realistic and achievable. In assessing the projections, used various techniques and models and the outcome of the assessments assist in structuring customers lending products and designing stage draw downs and play a key role in loan management.
•Prepared Structured Tolling Finance, Order Finance Facilities, ensuring that the pricing and security is commensurate with the client`s risk.
•Monitoring and controlling nominated accounts within portfolios in line with the Wholesale Credit Policy.
•Carrying out customer visits to gain understanding of the customers business and recommend financial products and services that suit the client’s needs.
