• Dismantling, refurbishing and assembling of steam turbines to include high, intermediate and low pressure cylinders of the M.A.N-Alstorm and ESG types carrying out such tasks as :
Industrial safety performances
Engineering measuring
Interpretation of engineering drawings
lifting and rigging
Preparation and replacement of gaskets packing and seals
• Carry out quality control activities such as precision measuring using outside, inside and depth micrometers, bore micrometers, vernier calipers, telescopic gauges, DTI, slip gauges and feeler gauges of various types.
• Plant maintenance in the coal plant in a power station working on conveyer belts, reduction gearboxes, pulleys skips
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lecturer In Charge: Planning, controlling, managing, assessing and reviewing all training activities and operational aspects to achieve set academic and technical standards with respect to industrial and national quality expectations.
Curriculum review and implementation, scheming, lesson planning and assessment
Apprenticeship training in fitting including machining, \[ Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Workshop Technology and Workshop Practical demonstrations in the following trades; Fitting, Machining(including turning) and Millwright\] covering the following major areas:
Maintenance Fitting
Industrial safety induction, hand tools, power hand tools, machine tools, basic rigging and hoisting, shafts, keys, hubs and fits, tribology(lubrication) couplings, bearings, clutches, belt drives, roller and chain conveyors, gears, gear drives and gearboxes, roller chains, positive and non positive pumps, hydraulics and pneumatics, valves, machine foundations, compressed air and compressors, etc.

Pumps-centrifugal, rotary and reciprocating pumps
Compressors-centrifugal and reciprocating
Valves- overhauling and reconditioning of the following valves; globe, gate, ball, needle, butterfly, non-return and safety relief.
Gearboxes- Radicon reduction worm and worm wheel and double reduction helical gear units.
Mechanical drives-chain and sprocket, gear drives, pulley drives, and cams.
Couplings-rubber tyres, rubber discs, plain coupling, universal couplings, gear, etc.
Bearings-selection, fitting and maintenance of a wide range of roller and plain journal bearings.
Machining: competence In the use of the following; centre lathe, horizontal, vertical and universal milling machines, grinding machines, drilling machines and shaping machines.
General to advanced turning, cutting of internal and external threads metric and imperial, left hand and right hand, turning to within a tolerance of 0.01mm.
General turning of gear blanks, repairing of shafts and hubs.
Milling of key seats, key ways, splines(internal and external), spur gears and helices.
General surface grinding of flat and inclined surfaces.
