▪ Design, prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate and/or graduate students on topics such as organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and chemical separation.

▪ Supporting the work of teachers in classes and laboratory sessions and giving technical advice to staff and students;
▪ Working with individual students and supporting them on research projects;
▪ Managing the stock control of chemicals and equipment;
▪ Contributing to high-level research, if working at university level;
▪ Ensuring that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly;
▪ Coordinating work in the laboratory to ensure efficient use is made of expensive pieces of equipment.
▪ Invigilate examinations in accordance with the rules and guidelines laid out in the Invigilators Handbook.
▪ Be sympathetic to the needs of the students.
▪ Ensure British Council's regulations are not compromised.
▪ Deal effectively and promptly with any problems that arise during the examinations.
▪ Remain vigilant at all times during the examinations, invigilators are not permitted to read or engage in any other activity which would divert their attention away from the students.
▪ Maintain security of examination papers, stationery and scripts.
▪ Be familiar with British Council's fire & evacuation procedures.
▪ Supervise external assessments (examinations) to ensure students have the appropriate assessment materials provided by SQA.
▪ Ensure that the assessments for which responsibility is assigned are carried out in accordance with the specified instructions.
▪ Report to the Chief Invigilator any anomalies during the external assessments.
▪ Responsible for the accurate recording of students attendance on attendance registers where appropriate.
▪ Assist in the invigilation of pre-test materials where required.
