Responsible for production, quality, Engineering/maintenance and safety in the 2300MT per month pvc pipe factory and provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operations of the facility.
• Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas of improvement.
• Review production schedules to maximize production planning and insure inventory is available to meet operations requirements at the optimum levels
• Work closely with the National Supply Chain manager to ensure that inventory doesn't run out and also to ensure finished goods are delivered to customers as per agreed ETAs.
• Work closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Officer to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace for our employees.
• Analyze workforce requirements and recommend hiring or promotions of staff
• Minimize production bottlenecks; allocate human and equipment resources and direct operations personnel to attain all established goals.
• Remove waste and constraints from the production process to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity.
• Management of tools and administration of dies, nozzles and breaker plates and ensure they are kept clean in tools and die stores
• Management of Monthly Stock Take of Raw Materials, Consumables & S.O.H and ensure variances are kept within acceptable levels and any deviations are fully explained to senior management.
• Participate in Root Cause analysis and Corrective Actions emanating from customer complaints, audits, and verification activities as required

• Lead technical problem-solving and process improvement within the plant to achieve resolution and elimination of product issues and minimize machine breakdowns.
• Attend to Mechanical and Electrical breakdowns and liaise with machinery manufactures on complex breakdowns to resolve them quickly
• Responsible for providing oversight on production, procurement, maintenance and planning of daily operations, monitoring of shipments, costs, timelines and productivity.
• Monitor operations expenses and research ways to reduce manufacturing costs while producing products of superior quality
• Device strategies to minimize stock variances every month.
• Plan labor, machinery and material utilization to achieve set targets within agreed timeframe and budget
• Provide for successful new product launches by ensuring clear specification development, process capability definition and attainment of customer satisfaction on initial shipments.
• Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
• Establish training needs for staff and recommend employees for training
Financial oversight and budget creation
• Estimating, negotiating and agreeing on budgets and timescales with customers and other managers
• Prepare and control operational budgets.
• Undertaking a costing of production in terms of material, cost of production and profit to influence the determination of the budget.
• Exercising control over inventory.
• Plan effective strategies for the financial wellbeing of the company.
Workflow and staffing
• Plans, schedules and reviews workload and manpower to make sure targets are being met on a cost-effective basis.
• Interview employment candidates and authorize personnel hires. Authorize employment actions of plant personnel.
• Address employees” issues or grievances and administer collective bargaining agreements
• Support worker communication with the management team.
• Identify potential production risks and provide ways of mitigating such risks.

Ad-hoc
• Maintain health and safety standards within the entire factory site whilst complying with the laws, regulations and ISO requirements.
• Adhere to company standards and production policies to meet company objectives.
• Assist in new product development and enhancements.
• Support a culture of excellent service delivery to customers by planning in a manner that supports this ideal.
• Undertaking the assessment of subordinates’ performance and monitors their time and attendance and discipline.
• Develop staff through continuous training and skills enhancement initiatives and motivates staff where needed and possible.
• Must be a team player to ensure that organizational objectives are met at all times.
• Any and all other duties related to the functioning of the Westmead site when requested to do so.
• Responsible for providing oversight on all production departments, procurement of critical spares and raw materials, plant maintenance, quality, health & safety, and planning of daily operations monitoring of shipment, costs, timelines, and productivity.
• Maintenance of plant equipment (attending to mechanical and electrical breakdowns of pumps, compressors, chillers, electrical motors)
• Attending to customer complaints and provide customers with product training and product technical information.
• Align company processes and procedure with product national standards and training operators on technical production processes and quality systems.
• Lead problem-solving and process improvement within the plant and customer to achieve resolution and elimination of product issues
• Plan the plant capacity in respect of manpower and ergonomics
• Direct and coordinate activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of goods, such as melt-blow and extrusion machine operators, maintenance artisans, quality inspectors and warehouse workers
• Provide for successful new product launches by ensuring clear specification development, process capability definition, and attainment of customer satisfaction on initial shipments
• Responsible for the manufacture of pressure and non-pressure plastic pipe factory and injection molding with an annual turnover of R1.3Billion
• Responsible for over 100 direct and indirect personnel- Maintenance Artisans, QC technicians, Production supervisors and operators and logistics personnel.
• Design of new chilling system to improve production efficiencies.
• Responsible for all metrics associated with manufacturing management including utilization, production planning, safety, quality, and on-time delivery.
• Accountable for the reduction of manufacturing costs through improved production efficiencies, lean tools and the effective deployment of capital and budgets
• Perform line changes, startups and general machinery maintenance, production planning,
• supervising 33 shift machine operators, drawing up standard operating procedures, ensuring tooling is kept clean in stores, quality assurance and control
• successfully completed the pulverizing project which reduces the raw material cost by 50%
