Job Purpose:
Divisional head responsible for leading a team of 80 employees across a centralised distribution network. The role involves overseeing and coordinating the transport, storage, and distribution of the company’s goods throughout South Africa and its cross-border markets. Other important activities of the role include the managing of inventory levels, the optimisation of supply chain processes, negotiating with suppliers andcarriers, ensuring compliance with regulations, and monitoring the overall efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the logistics operations. Also responsible for analysing data and developing strategies to improve the company’s logistics performance.

Duties And Responsibilities:
• Leading the end-to-end distribution centre operations so that optimal and efficient performance is achieved on key process activities like inventory receiving, put away, storage, picking, packing, loading, delivery to customers, de-briefing post-delivery, managing customer invoicing, credit note and claims processing.
• Developed, streamlined and co-ordinated strategy for primary and secondary distribution and containerised exports. Accountable for all secondary transport demand, centralised planning, total optimization of trucks in the secondary distribution space while reporting on all key performance indicators against transport standards including corrective actions.
• Conceptualized and drafted operational procedures for activities such as verification of in-coming and out-going stock, handling, disposals of stales, keeping accurate warehouse inventory, inter warehouse transfers and warehouse replenishment.
• Developed, monitored, adapted, and tracked KPI’s to address operational and performance requirements. Enforced and maintained safe working conditions and work environment.
• Co-ordinated the end-to-end management of secondary transport freight from collecting customer demand, securing services, to execution of delivery. Improved on site customer collections performance by 15%.
• Collaborated with the sales, manufacturing, and finance teams daily to resolve execution issues that arise. Supported the sales team by ensuring emergency shipments are managed in a timely manner and meet service expectations.
• Improved the order feed process into the Transportation Management System including those generated by various order management systems and those manually entered. Collaborated with manufacturing to develop prioritization rules for loads to minimise delays on loads and improve loading processes. Improved on site loading performance by 21%.
• Empowered execution team with-in org to complete all transport execution functions which includes getting vehicles to load and deliver on time and making operational changes to the plan to ensure deliveries on time. Improved own distribution and 3 PLs to achieve the most effective and efficient cost to serve final customer. Grew the exports market by 6%.
• Improved on time order delivery by 19% and accuracy with agreed customer expectations.
• Identified and implemented continuous improvement projects to reduce cost and improve service delivery. Initiated the setting and alignment of logistics and specific business unit targets
• Lead 5 workshop team members which co-ordinated and managed own fleet of 50 trucks, 80 trailers and 35 fork trucks. Enforced scheduled maintenance, weekly checks, services, and breakdowns are effectively managed to prevent / minimise downtime interruption on service.
