Design Architect at Premier Composite Technologies
  • United Arab Emirates - Dubai
  • My current job since March 2009

I'm working as Design Architect for Mecca Clock Tower Project
Project description:
Premier Composite Technologies was awarded the contract to build the cladding and the largest clock in the world for the Clock Tower in Mecca (Abraj Al-Bait Towers). The clock tower is an incredible 601m in height, making it the second highest building in the world. Premier Composite Technologies supply the last 200 meters of the upper most part of this prestigious tower. The composite cladding is made of Carbon/Glass fiber covered with Italian mosaic tiles - 13, 000 of which are made with gold mosaic. Overall the total cladding is 35, 000 square meters. It is including four clock faces of 43 meter diameter each made from a Glassfibre/Epoxy sandwich laminate and more than 700, 000 LED's are integrated into the composite cladding to light up the clock face by night. The massive clock hands that are 22m long, they are built using carbon fibre and are a self-supportive composite structure that does not involve any steel components or structures. Same thing for the Crescent, at the top of the building, which has a diameter of 23 m and is largest crescent ever built. The crescent is built similar to a sailing boat, with structural composite frames like bulkheads inside a yacht.

Duty and responsabilities:
- Architectural and general arrangement drawings, technical and sub-structure detail drawings;
- Surfaces 3D modeling and assembly 3D modeling;
- Moulds and panels shop drawings for the production;
- Follow the product for all manufacturing processes till it doesn’t leave the factory
- Shear drawings and technical information between PCT and all the other companies involved in the project: architect, engineer and manufacturer (LED, tile, sub-structure…) and within my company; supporting in this way the project manager and all the other components of the design department. This had given to me a good overview of the all project.
