Zirku Island, a 600 thousand barrels oil per day processing base for ZADCO production and export operations consisting of processing, loading and gas export facilities and the non-industrial supporting facilities. The company was requested by its shareholders to increase production to one million barrels per day. To achieve this target, major facility expansion, life extension and additions with a budget of eight billion US Dollars were required. In this position, I lead a team of subject matter experts to:
Lead, manage and exercise site control and support to the execution of all brownfield/greenfield and life extension projects. The workforce involved in the execution of these major works varies between 3000 to 5000 employees from company, contractors and sub-contractors. These projects are of complex type due to the interface with life facilities. By exercising strong leadership and proper planning, we accomplished safe projects’ completion with hot change over without production losses
Represent site operations in technical studies at select stage, project scope reviews, technical clarification meetings, safety reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPS, tender evaluation and progress meetings. Resolve technical and logistical issues to achieve un-interrupted work execution
Overview commissioning procedures and lead/facilitate the start-up of brown field and major upgrades on systems and equipment
Analyze and direct the Site for optimum participation and involvement with project expectations for its successful and timely completion and ensure proper hand-over of plants and systems to site operations
In this position, I lead a team of 500 men distributed in different discipline groups to maintain and achieve a high level of plant reliability and availability. I was the manager and focal point for several major planned shutdowns for facilities’ upgrades and integrity threat elimination. These shutdown activities were completed on time, within the budgeted funds and without LTI. Responsibilities also included:
•Maintaining high level of plant availability / reliability to meet the set production KPI’s and shareholders expectations
•Administrating different service contract for rotating equipment overhauling, online monitoring for predictive maintenance, civil works, scaffolding services and painting activities
•Preparation and review of maintenance policies and procedures
•Integral role in major studies and projects management from statement of requirements to implementation and commissioning. Accomplished the successful completion of modernization of scada and control systems (MOSAICS) project which is of complex nature due to its interface with every single plant component. The project was completed without operation interruption and no LTI
The highest authority in the field. Responsible for the work of a group of 74 engineers, technicians, operators and administrators distributed on different disciplines. In a remote area away from the main land, responsible to boost the morale of employees, meet the shareholders expectations and apply safe and best practice in operations. Faced challenges of meeting production targets due to weak wells and high water cut. Other challenge was to build site capability for the management of risks and crisis due to limitation in space and resources. In this position, I lead several taskforce teams and played major role in the pan company restructuring and transforming in a performance driven organization. Responsibilities also included.
•Manage all offshore oil production, water injection and related processing activities in the field. Review injection and production programs and ensure effective and safe achievement of agreed production and injection targets
•Ensure effective planning and implementation of all maintenance, repair and overall activities on the Central Production Complex and Well Head Platform including preventive maintenance, individual wellhead shutdowns and material procurement
•Supervise safety activities in the Field, ensure compliance with routine and emergency procedures and monitor training of all employees in safety aspects
•Review technical and administrative procedures applicable on Site, and propose appropriate changes where necessary
•Establish, implement and monitor programs and facilities for training, general welfare, medical care, health and hygiene and recreation of employees on the complex and ensure these are of high standards to maintain employee motivation and morale
Establishment of maintenance facilities and development of maintenance procedures and schedule
•Supervision of fault finding/repair, Routine / preventive maintenance and preservation maintenance on various equipment, piping and structures, Living Quarter Module and all accommodation facilities
Follow-up Construction Schedule. Site inspection to ensure the Contractor adherence to the Specifications and quality control manual
•Prepare punch list on equipment and piping
•Development of commissioning schedule and procedures
•Preparation of equipment for startup
•Hand over commissioned systems to the operation group and ensure adherence to the technical requirements and vendor instructions
Review of basic and detailed calculations / drawings for different Mechanical Equipment including tanks, pressure vessels, gas turbines, pumps, air compressors, piping system, HVAC system and Living Quarter with all the accommodation facilities
•Review and approval of bid packages prepared by the Engineer for mechanical equipment
•Preparation of bid comparison reports for management review and participation in the Tender Board Meetings to obtain approval for purchase
•Follow-up on Vendors to ensure adherence to Specifications and Schedule
