Public Health Research Consultant at Zayed University
  • United Arab Emirates - Abu Dhabi
  • November 2014 to August 2015

This study looks at how many females students at Zayed University use tobacco products and how often. It also investigates students’ perception and attitude towards smoking in terms of health risks, social and cultural factors. The results of this survey will help the health authorities in the UAE to develop more effective strategies to help people to quit smoking and to improve their health and their loved ones’ health.
This survey is based on the Global Youth Tobacco Survey which is a larger survey conducted by the World Health Organization in the UAE (and other regions) looking at students between the ages of 13-15. Little information is available on smoking among females ages 18-26 such as yourselves. Conducting this research project gives us information that allows the health authorities to understand the factors contributing to the spread of smoking and put in place tailored programs to reduce smoking and prevent further uptake.
