Mars Leisure

It is mostly a pools betting company on football games, in all British, as well as Australian leagues. Bettings are made based on "coupons"(papers) sold to customers, via agents, with whom the company deals.

My job was to go over the accounts of the winning customers, and calculate the winnings of the high stakes coupons, then calculate the gross sales, the net profit, for each state in Nigeria, and every group of our agents. Moreover, I had to keep track of the sales of our agents, and give note, whenever one's sales go down, hoping to get in touch, and figure out the reasons behind the decrease in his or her sales.

Step one to me, working for Mars Leisure, was checking the result each week, before getting to the real work of calculating the sales, winnings, profits and losses. The weekly result is based on the outcome of 49 games held throughout the week, concentrated mostly on Friday and Saturday. Bettings are made, based on how many Draws every customer thinks there would be out of the 49 games. The 49 games are listed from 1 to 49 on every coupon, and the customer ticks a box next to the number of the game, he thinks is going to be a draw. He can tick as many boxes as he wishes; by that increasing the cost of the coupon.

When the number of draws comes out on Saturday, I have to implement the number of draws as an input to a program we have come up with, and it gives me in return the winning coupons.

I go over these winning coupons, in other words, the coupons we have to pay their holders, and audit the big ones. We suspect cases of fraud, and cheating, whenever a customer wins too many coupons for example.

This is a glimpse of what I had to do in Mars Leisure on a weekly basis.
