• Perform drilling operations, check and supervise all drilling equipment.

Start pumps that circulate mud through drill pipes and boreholes to cool drill bits and flush out drill-cuttings.
Clamp holding fixtures on ends of hoisting cables.
Control the viscosity and weight of the drilling fluid.
Weigh clay, and mix with water and chemicals in order to make drilling mud, using portable mixers.
Prepare mud reports, and instruct crews about the handling of any chemical additives.
Set and bolt crown blocks to posts at tops of derricks.

Floormen perform the daily and weekly maintenance on the various rig floor drilling equipment.
They must ensure that all relevant rig safety procedures and practices are followed during drilling operations.
They must attend safety meetings including pre-tour, toolbox and task risk assessment meetings.
They report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations that they observe promptly to the Driller, Assistant Driller, Derrickman and Lead Floorman.
They respond to all emergency situations in accordance with the rig safety procedures.
They respond to any well control situations promptly as directed and practiced in the various safety drills.
