Customer Services Department provides assistance to all consumers of the Company as per Vision and Mission statements and to adhere to the requirements of the regulatory body. There are several customer services centers in different regions of the Company which are responsible to provide immediate solutions to customer problems. Corporate & Retail Sales Department is also part of Customer Services Department and responsible to promote sales of the Company and to act as a front end department for all customers of the Company.
As General Manager Procurement, I was responsible for overall procurement operations of the company with a staff of about 150 subordinates and 35 officers, reporting to me through a hierarchy. The annual value of procurement including local as well as foreign sources was around Rs 15 bn.
My total professional experience spans over a period of about 36 years. This includes 11 years in company’s IT department and 25 years in Procurement Department. I started my career with this company as Assistant Officer in Procurement Department in 1976 and worked there all along except for the period 1981-1992, during which I worked as Analyst Programmer for the same company, on my own choice. Progressively moving towards higher positions, I have gained sufficient experience in procurement for material for large projects, like Steel Linepipe, Large Gas Compressors, Telecommunications, IT Equipment and services in the form of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and SCADA equipment etc, many of which were funded by the World Bank. This has given me ample opportunity to actively get involved in preparation and review of tender documents, evaluation of bids as well as drafting/reviewing contract documents, in line with the World Bank Guidelines and Standard Bidding Documents. My job often involved negotiations with suppliers during pre-contract and post-contract phases. Being a member of core management team of the company, I also served as member on various cross-functional committees and contributed towards policy issues throughout the company.
In addition to above, I also conduct in-house training courses for company’s executive officers and staff on various aspects of procurement including Good Buying Practices, Principles of Evaluation of Bids, Contracts Management, and Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Rules 2004 etc.
