Key responsibilities of the Global Nursing Capacity Building Program (GNCBP), General Nursing (GN) Program Officer
The main objectives of ICAP-CU program in Ethiopia provide support to regions with overarching goals of quality service delivery, capacity building, and health system strengthening. Project objectives include:
1. Strengthening capacity at FMOH and the regions to rapidly expand HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment activities and reduce HIV/AIDS related morbidity and mortality in Ethiopia, by provision of technical support for the Ethiopian HIV/AIDS ART Initiative
2. Build nursing and midwifery capacity to provide quality nursing and midwifery care.
3. Increase nursing and midwifery capacity to provide HIV care services.
4. Increase nurse capacity at the in-service level
5. Train Nurses and Midwives in, hospital nursing care standards, and PMTCT and conduct Supportive supervision and clinical mentoring
Other program activities
At National and regional levels with guidance from ICAP/GNCBP Coordinator, I actively engage in planning and implementation of the GN program.
• In collaboration with the FMOH & RHBs I, organize nursing care and nursing process training and mentoring of trained nurses.
• In consultation with the ICAP- Lead, identify issues & topics with which need to be addressed by FMoH National Nurse Advisory Technical Working Group (FMoH/NNATWG) and RHBs, and other stakeholders (ENA, EMA).
• Participate during the annual work-plan, budgeting and budget justification activities, M&E for the program and timely NCC submission
• Undertake regular supportive supervision and mentorship visits to ICAP supported sites in coordination with the regional staff.
• Follow up the activities of trained nurses in the hospitals supported by ICAP Program in Ethiopia and work with hospital management to empower nursing & midwifery staff.
• Initiate the development of patient centered care and availability of patient education materials based on need assessment at health facilities.
• Motivate and assist practicing nurses to document experiences and participate in research activities
• Develop benchmarks and evaluate program performance regularly
• Submit monthly reports on activities pertaining to GN program.
At Johns Hopkins University-Technical Support for Ethiopian HIV/AIDS Initiative (JHU-TSEHAI)
Key responsibilities
• Conduct overall clinical evaluation of HIV patients both adult and paediatrics in the ART clinic
• Communicate and Coordinate with Advanced Clinical Monitoring of Antiretroviral Central Office, Site PI and Co-PIs, Site level ART Team, Hospital/University/Health Center Staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the project at respective sites.
• Manage day to day activities at site level.
• Follow and record all ARVS taken by the patients
• Managing logistics - Process and send collected DBS with International Clinical Laboratory (ICL) to Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute (EHNRI)
• Ensure availability of all project related materials including but not limited to study forms and laboratory equipment as needed.
• Assure all laboratory specimen are collected and processed by laboratory professionals as per to the SOP
• Train, provide orientation and monitor all clinic level activities for ACM purposes.
• Oversee the job responsibilities of site level workers at the site, keep up-to-date and appropriate documentation regarding above staff and report on time and accordingly to Head Office for any breach of conduct.
• Manage petty cash allocated for patient compensation and running costs of the project at site level.
• Prepare weekly, monthly and other reports as required.
• Develop and update appropriately site specific project SOP, pilot test study forms and provides feedback, monitor the project’s progress, document deviations and report as required to ACM central office.
• Liaising - Respond to ART Clinic and study related queries from ACM & facility level staff and direct others appropriately.
• Manage and ensure security of all JHU-TSEHAI properties at site level.
I have graduated with Cumulative GPA of 3.35 having sufficient knowledge and skill on the management and control of infectious diseases. After my graduation I have practiced my knowledge and skill in the management of common infectious diseases that can have a devastating effect on human and at nation at large.
