MSc Subsea Engineering Key Modules Include: Offshore Engineering Practice, Inspection and Survey, Maritime Safety and Risks, Risers and Mooring Lines, Subsurface Technology, Marine Pipelines, Subsea Systems and Installations, Theory and Practice of Marine Computational Fluid Dynamics. Dissertation: Design of a SPAR Hull, taking into consideration Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV). Projects Accomplished: • Group Project: Preparation of a technical/economical proposal for complete exploration, production and decommissioning of an oil field in the “Golden Triangle”. The Tupi field (Pre-salt Clusters), located at the Santos Basin in Brazil was chosen as our case study. • Carried out a full high-level risk analysis based on data and assumptions provided for the operation of RoPax ships. This comprised of calculations of frequencies of accidents occurring, breakdown of frequencies to potential outcomes, estimation of consequences by calculating individual and societal risks and considerations of the cost effectiveness of applicable risk control options. • Performed a Pipelay Analysis for a J-lay pipeline, which involved calculations of the bottom and top tension, departure angle, equivalent stress, with respect to the operating water depth, pipe diameter and thickness (A Subsea 7 supervised project). • Design of a Subsea Pipeline transporting light condensate from a subsea wellhead to a production platform in the North Sea, according to industry codes like API and DNV. Calculations for the vertical stability of the pipeline were performed, considering three different steel grades, with respect to the various operational conditions, and the most suitable and cost effective option was chosen (A Chevron supervised project).
