- Manage the fabricators performance with regards to Quality and Schedule.
- Review fabricators reporting, subsequently work with them to anticipate and identify areas of concern and areas for improvement.

- Control and management of Project Change Costs. This was both mitigating Project Change Costs with the Sub-Contractor, and identifying and negotiating Project Change Costs with the Client.

- Manage and motivate small site team.
- Ensure positive working relationship is maintained with Client, Fabricator and Suppliers across the Projects.

- Creating all documentation for fabrication tender pack (BOQ, DOW, Contract etc.)
- Identifying suitable fabrication yards, and following the whole fabrication tender through from RFQ phase to PO placement.
- Identifying commercial risks in Contract with Client, working together with Project team to mitigate these.
- Identify commercial opportunities in Contract with Client, creating and issuing variation orders in line with these opportunities.
- Managing documentation and procedure submissions from fabricator, and managing approval of the same.
- Defending, mitigating and negotiating on any variations submitted by the fabricator.
- Heavily involved with creation of the baseline schedule. Overall Project Schedule with Microsoft Project, and Fabricators Schedule on Primavera.
During this time I was also required to train and assist my replacement in the tendering department, as well as report on lessons learned for future tenders.
During my time in the tendering department of Veolia Westgarth I was heavily involved in tender preparations for Seawater Treatment and Produced Water Treatment Packages. My duties included:
- Carrying out take-offs from P&IDs, GA’s, preliminary 3-D Navisworks Models as well as cable schedules and tray routing drawings.
- Creating BOQs for fabrication scope of work to incorporate into overall tender price.
- Negotiating back and forward with fabricators, explaining scope and specifications.
- Cost saving exercises and evaluating the cost impact of design changes.
- Management of pricing database, used for early stage tender estimates.
During my brief spell at this steel fabrication shop, my duties included the following:
- Estimate pricing for steel sections/plate for walk in customers.
- Estimate costs for fabrication of basic frames, based on contractor drawings.
- Required to work on the shop floor cutting steel and assisting with loadout.
- Update the stock database, following sale of materials
- Placement of orders with international steel stockists.
I was given direct entry into the 2nd year of this Bachelors Degree course in Quantity Surveying. I graduated with honours, achieving a 2:1 classification, and an overall percentage of 68.5%. This course shared many modules with Building Surveying, and Construction Management courses, as such I was able to gain a fair understanding of these roles also.
Higher National Diploma achieved in Planning & General Practice Surveying. 2 Year College course focusing on Project Planning, and General Practice Surveying, which focused on a combination of Quantity Surveying skills, Building Surveying skills, and Land Surveying skills.
