Working on a diesel powered power plant within a 5 person commissioning team
in the falklands island to power the islands RAF base and local surrounding areas
via diesal generators and turbine. My day to day activities where as such,
working within the control room to power the plant using SCADA PLC and DCS
systems as well as training the clients from the old power station to the new one
ready to hand over the power plant as soon as myself and the rest of the
commissioning team deemed it ready to hand over, within the control room I also
went through all process and procedures fault finding any defects that would
need to be fixed correctly either on the DCS PLC or SCADA systems the main
process used where 6 main generators ran via diesel via a CAHU, MTHW, VAC,
District heating and GHAP systems as well as fault finding in the field doing
general mechanical maintenance work that would be carried out by myself and
the other members of the commissioning team in the field if deemed necessary
i.e faulty equipment such as pumps, airlines, fuel systems, engines, pipe work
and more.

• Working within a energy from waste recycling top tier COMAH site
managing waste and turning it into energy via a furnace to turbine process
using steam, with doing this we would be working with a huge range of
generating and heating equipment such as boilers, generators, reactors,
water treatment methods, plant equipment and so on, my day to day
activities included but not limited to monitoring and the management of
personal safety measures of the technical and operational safety of the
facility and the running of the production and process of the site. I would
be using a wide range of equipment around the plant, monitoring and
changing on site process via DCS and PLC systems via the control room
and manually doing so on the field such as boiler activity, turbine activity,
bunker levels, heat levels, steam levels, chemical levels, flue oil gas levels
opening and closing of valves and fault finding as well as this we would
use P&IDs for a wide range of reasons such as following the onsite
process following lines, checking for faults and doing maintenance work,
monitoring of the CEMS and FGT plant, constantly drive a safety-first
culture across the facility as well as these jobs I would also regularly work
on the tank farm transferring lime and carbon to onsite and offsite tanker
vessels as well as working in the water treatment plant and using a range
of sampling methods to sample chemicals then doing the correct sample
testing in the labs per SOPS. I would wear a range of PPE to suit the job
such as general PPE to full face respiratory equipment. As well as all this I
have also been involved in plant start up, shuts downs and isolations
within this I have also on a regular basis and been responsible for permit
to work issuing via paper and digital and using and editing SOPs.

The day to day running of the bio mass site my job was to convert and recycle
waste such as wood, sugar, chemicals, wheat and so on into clean energy this
was done through a wide range of ways and techniques per batch card given to
myself during the start of each shift depending on what material we where
turning into clean energy. I would firsty check the batch card to the on going
process to make sure everything was correct and ensure it was running how it
should, recorded correctly and all safety conditions where up to standard such as
PPE, house keeping and all machinery and process going on where happening
correctly. During my day to day runnings on the plant we would use a variety of
equipment for the process such as vessels for charging raw materials, various
distillation methods, using IBCs, a varies of chemicals, chemical sampling, basic
lab work and varies of feedstock ready for the process, handling hazardous
materials. I would be using a whole range of equipment needed for the process
at hand that we where required to use, the process considered of using
feedstock that is fed into a fluidisation vessel to neutralise alkali earth metals
that are present in it, once the neutralised feedstock was fed to a hot air dryer to
remove excess moisture, I would then send the product down the vacuum
conveyed downstream system once I had done this i then moved onto drying the
material that is exposed to high temperatures the main component of the the
feedstock that is then converted to and extracted as NOACHAR, whilst its sugars
are vaporised and fed to the condenser. Once the sugar vapours where passed
through a water cooled condenser and liquified to a liquid sugar it is then it
would get fed into a vessel where it is hydrolysed and converted once this was
done we would then sample material and further test it and go through all the
correct quality control needed as per batch card then pack it ready for the
customer. As well as this I maintained and fixed a wide varity of equipment in
the workshop such as pumps, flow rate gauges, small machinery, disks, hand
tools, valves along with any other equipment required to be maintained or fixed.
While this process was going on we used various software such as PCS7 in the
control room to control flows, valves, isolations, temperature, directing flow and
general monitoring etc.

The day to day running of the Chemoxy site working mainly in the tank farm.
Duties included supporting plant operations by facilitating the flow of bulk and
packaged materials on and off the site, cleaning, emptying and transfer of road
tankers into various tanks for specific import and export of chemicals doing LICs
prior to exporting and importing goods setting up all lines leading from road
barrels to the tanks on the tank farm. In addition, support the processing team in
processing activities such as, Drumming/de drumming, using IBC, s, the filtration
and blending of chemicals. Checking daily tanker movements against the daily
movements schedule cross referencing order numbers and products that come
onto site via paper work and various computer software. Using a wide range of
pumps such as pressure positive and centrifugal pumps, monitoring oil and
pressure levels either via DCS or in the field. Checking and completing effluent
plant tasks as per procedures loading and unloading of road barrels and ensuring
that they are labelled correctly before leaving site. Conduct routine laboratory
analysis as per import and export specifications using a range of chemicals from
non-hazardous to toxic and highly hazardous chemicals, using a wide range of
flex hoses when doing import or exports via road tankers, also using a range of
equipment, pumps, valves and machinery. Complying with site Dangerous Goods
procedures in relation to labelling and classification of movements. Operate to
site storage and segregation guidelines for hazardous and non-hazardous
materials and complying with health and safety guidelines.

Working at the Sirius Minerals / Anglo American on a top TIER COMAH Site
working in a concrete segment factory on a production line producing concrete
segments ready for the building of an underground 23 mile tunnel ready to
transport Polyhalite and processed onto the next stage as required. My main
duties included day to day running of the production factory, the making of
concrete segments, cleaning and repearing moulds and segments, responsible of
isolations and preparation of plant equipment, wearing the correct PPE in
accordance to operating procedures, using a wide range of tools, equipment and
machinery, raw materials, I also worked with various pumps and valves, general
housekeeping, heavy lifting, working alone and as a team, working in a fast
paced environment, quality control and assurance, assisting engineers when
needed, stick wielding, the use of scanners, computers and software such as
SCADA, PLC and DCS, and working with a range of hazardous chemicals along
with sampling chemicals and oils. Along with this I also trained, worked and
drove various cranes and machinery within the factory.

Employed as a production operator in the day to day running of the production
plant in a steel manufacturing and gas fired furnace environment working with a
wide range of equipment and machines such as magnets, quenches, cranes and
CNC machines, and a range of pumps i.e pressure positive placement pumps and
centrifugal pumps. My day to day activities consisted of, using CNC machines,
monitoring and controlling pressure and oil levels on machinery, fault finding,
chemical sampling, handling chemicals, chemical bunkering and gathering and
analyzing real time data using SCADA and DCSs and to maintain health and
safety environment expectations. I have also been involved in hazard and risk
assessments and I am also permit to work trained.

Working at Redcar Coke Ovens that is a top tier COMAH site, working within the
By-Products Plant, Screenhouse and Battery. Responsible for assisting engineers,
general housekeeping, spillages, working with a range of chemicals, gasses and
raw materials within the By-Products plant, identifying faults on machinery and
helping to move and maintain equipment such as pumps, valves and any other
equipment needed. Other duties involved tanker offloading, DCS / PLC checks,
chemical bunkering and sampling as per procedures.

Performing Engineering Qualification Developed expertise with diagnostics, fixing
and maintaining, using a wide range of hand tools, lathes, CNC machinery, basic
flame cutting, welding, stripping down pumps & valves and rebuilding
equipment, also performed pump maintenance, troubleshooting & replacing
components and used various software and techniques in a control room
environment.
