Atomic Power Station 1&2 (TAPS).
• Major Overhaul of Power Transformers
• Major overhaul work of large Power Transformers at TAPS.
• Erection, Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance and Testing of HT motors
• Erection, Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance and testing of 3.3 KV Induction
• motors of various capacities ranging from 100 HP to 2000 HP.
• Erection, Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance, upkeep and condition
• monitoring of 250 V DC, 1200 AH Battery Bank.
• Maintenance and Testing of Relays.
• All types of Electrical Maintenance and Condition Monitoring works of 415 V & 3.3 KV Switch Gears, Electrical Equipments, Machineries and Systems at TAPS.

2 Project Activities at Tarapur Atomic Power Project - 3&4

The construction of Tarapur Atomic Power Project 3&4 (TAPP-3&4) started in the year 2000, adjacent to the location of Tarapur Atomic Power Station 1&2. TAPP 3&4 is the largest Nuclear Power Project of India till now, having twin units of 540 Mwe each and completed within record time of 5 years.

I was deputed to Tarapur Atomic Power Project 3&4 for speedy completion of some of the activities and associated with the following works.

• Erection, Installation, Commissioning, and Testing of HT motors
• Erection, Installation, Commissioning and testing of 6.6 KV Induction motors of various capacities ranging from 100 HP to 3000 HP.
• Cable Schedule Preparation, Erection, Installation and Testing of Electrical cables.
• Erection, Installation, Commissioning, and Testing of 6.6 KV Switch Gear.
• Erection, Installation, Commissioning of 220 KV/6.6 KV, 70 MVA Transformer


3 Major Upgradation Work of Tarapur Atomic Power Station - 1&2

As the TAPS 1&2 plant had operated for more than 35 years, It was needed to renovate some of the critical systems and equipments to meet the stringent international requirement regarding safety of the plant. The major outage of the plant was taken from 01.10.2005 to 15.02.2006 for 145 days and major changes were carried out in emergency electrical supply systems. During this period I was associated with the following works.

• Installation, Commissioning and Testing of 3 Nos. 800 KW Diesel Generators in compliance with IEEE-387
• Design and work contract preparation for Electrification of New Reactor Building.
• Design, Installation, Commissioning & Testing of Automatic Computer Based (PLC based Logic Controller) Emergency Transfer system for starting, Load shedding, load sequencing and optimum capacity utilization of Diesel Generator Sets.
• Erection, Installation & Commissioning of 250 V DC, 1200 AH Battery Bank.


4 Procurement, Tendering, Contracts Preparation

I was posted at NPCIL head quarter, Mumbai from 28.04.2006 in the Contracts & Materials Management Department. Here I was associated with the following works.

• Tendering/Purchasing of Equipments & Materials required for Nuclear Power Plants and Projects.
• Preparation of Tenders ( Single Part Tender/ Two Part Tender/ Global Tender/ Public Tender ) for procurement of Large Machineries.
• Preparation of Contracts for Mega Packages of Equipment Supply, Installation and commissioning for Nuclear Power Projects.
• Preparation of Contracts for Works.
Note : Annual Purchases at NPCIL head quarter at Mumbai were in the range of Rs. 800-1000 Crore per Year. These purchases were mainly done for the upcoming Nuclear Power Plant machineries and equipments.
