I am responsible for the management of the estimating department at Façade Concepts Limited. Works include estimating projects and reviewing and negotiation of commercial terms and conditions.
My duties at Entec were primarily sales related. They included the measuring, estimating and production of specification compliant tenders for submission to the client, leading to the securing of orders and handover to other departments. Post contract work included checking off material orders to ensure the budget is adhered to and reviewing design works to manage compliance with the contract scope of works. I was also responsible for reviewing and negotiating contract terms and conditions, including the JCT suite of contracts, bespoke forms and collateral warranties.
This role was similar to that undertaken at CA Group in that it involved the estimating and production of tenders, negotiation of sub-contract orders and then following this, the management of design, procurement and commercial functions on individually secured projects, both in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
I took the position at CA Group with a brief that required me to relaunch CA Specialist Cladding Systems - a trading division that had been mothballed three years prior. The division specialised in the design, supply and installation of rainscreen cladding projects in an array of sectors. At the time of my arrival, I was the only member of staff working under the SCS banner and I grew the business from scratch into a profitable trading division with ten staff members. In a period of less than four years, over £27m of work was secured and delivered.
My role developed from a limited commercial role into a complete project management role, which included overseeing the estimating, design co-ordination, material and sub-contract buying/procurement and commercial functions, liaising with a Contracts Manager to develop programmes and project resourcing and ensuring the project was delivered to the client as required.
I commenced work at Deepdale Solutions Ltd. as an Estimator and quickly progressed to Quantity Surveyor; then following completion of my BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying in 2011, I was promoted to Commercial Manager. This role made me responsible for all estimating and quantity surveying functions at Deepdale Solutions. Duties included daily management of estimators and quantity surveyors within the Commercial Office, agreement of final accounts with clients and sub-contractors, reviewing and signing off tenders, applications, variations and commercial notices.
Other tasks included production of monthly turnover calculations and cost/value reconciliations for all projects and liaising with Accounts department to produce monthly management accounts, liaising with other department heads to ensure projects were delivered successfully, assisting Board of Directors with claims and counter claims as required, assisting Purchasing department with contract terms and letters of intent for suppliers and presenting updates to the Board at monthly management meetings.
