Contracts and Claims Manager at Fujairah International Airport Expansion Project - Fujairah - United Arab Emirates.
The Scope of Work at the Project includes a new Air Traffic Control tower, Runway Expansion, new Parallel Emergency Runway, connecting Taxiways, new Airfield Ground Lighting Substations, Energy Complex Building, a Primary Substation, a Maintenance Hangar Complex and Apron, a Satellite Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting Station, as well as various utility support facilities and associated infrastructure.
Project Value: USD 180 Million.
Contract Type: Design and Build Contract.
My responsibilities include: Analysing the variation orders in terms of cost and time, Managing the project contract and subcontracts’ team to ensure proper administration of the contract, subcontracts and claims in accordance with the set strategy, guidelines, policies, and procedures, Advising project/site teams of contractual rights and obligations to ensure the contractual terms and conditions. Ensuring the compliance with the contract terms and conditions and highlight any gaps, Providing required support to maintain balanced relationship management with all internal and external business partners, Handling the correspondences/ letters from/to Employer, Engineer and Subcontractors in accordance with the provisions of the contract and the subcontracts on daily basis, Managing all claims, review analysis and supportive documentation, lead negotiations, and ensure efficient claims’ resolution in coordination with the contract and subcontracts’ conditions, Communicating with all concerned stakeholders to gather, analyse and trace all claims to reach optimum resolutions, Cooperating with business entities and parties aiming to resolve all the claims with minimal need to go for arbitration, Managing claims and follow up through the arbitration process till the claim is resolved, Monitoring and ensuring the compliance of contracts management and claims processes to related country local laws and regulations, Reviewing and Analysing the monthly executive reports for the project to be submitted for the executive management, Preparing the contractual letters of Intents (LOI), Letters of Acceptance (LOA), subcontracts, change orders, Amendments and Addendums to contract and subcontracts, Coordination for consultation meetings to settling claims and disputes.

From January 2014 till July 2019, contracts and claims specialist at Orascom Construction head office in Cairo, Egypt.
As a member of the contracts and claims centralized department in the head office, I was responsible to support in the contract administration of a number of assigned projects. This support included assisting/supporting the projects’ teams in handling the critical claims and contractual/ legal issues in their projects.
The list of projects in which I was engaged in the contract administration included the following industrial sector projects: “Natgasoline” plant in the USA with a value of USD 1.4 Billion, Al Safwa cement plant - line 2 in Saudi Arabia with a value of USD 97 Million, “Al Beida” cement plant project in Algeria with a value of USD 130 Million and “Ain El Kabira” cement plant project in Algeria with a value of USD 180 Million; the following power generation sector projects: “Jiji & Mulembwe” hydroelectric power plants project in Burundi with a value of USD 152 Million (Contract was in French language) and “Assuit” supercritical power plant project in Egypt with a value of USD 103 Million; the following commercial buildings sector projects: “Golf Views” project in Egypt with a value of 55 Million and “Greater Egyptian Museum” project in Egypt with a value of USD 931 Million, Tunnel sector projects: “the Greater Cairo Metro Line 3 (phase 4B)” project in Egypt with a value of USD 513 Million; and the following civil structural and finishing sector project: the “New Ministry of Defence” project in Egypt with a value of USD 600 Million.
My responsibilities included: Being the contact person between the projects’ teams and the Contracts and Claims department in the head office with respect to all the contractual and legal issues, Ensuring contracts’ compliance with contractual terms and conditions and highlight any gaps, Analysing the variation orders in terms of cost and time and highlight key figures to be communicated accordingly with the department management, Administrating the claims and producing the related analysis and negotiation in accordance with the related contracts’ conditions, Ensuring the implementation of the correct claims quantification procedures: delay + cost in accordance with the related contracts’ conditions, Preparing the contractual letters of Intents (LOI), Letters of Acceptance (LOA), subcontracts, change orders, Amendments and Addendums to contracts and subcontracts, Following on problems which demand department management attention, to ensure timely response to the clients/ employers, Responding to related document requests and various enquiries and Maintaining all related records, documentation and adequate filing system.

In 2012 I was selected based on special tests to join the ‘Talent Program’ at “Orascom Construction”, in which I had the opportunity to pass through many departments as follows:
Procurement department in the head office, from Oct. 2012 till Feb. 2013, in which I had the chance to learn about the procurement process including preparing the comparison sheets for the vendors and selecting the appropriate ones, Planning department in the head office, from Feb. 2013 till Jun. 2013, through which I had the chance to be familiar with the preparation of the schedules and programmes during the tender stage of the projects, Technical office of “Baiji Power Plant Project in Iraq” (from the company head office in Cairo), from Jun. 2013 till Sep. 2013, in which I had the chance to learn the basis of operation and coordination processes in the projects, and finally the Tender Contract department in the head office, from Sep. 2013 till Dec. 2013, in which I had the opportunity to be familiar with the contracts forms, types and structures for the projects during the tender stage.

The Scope of Work at the Project includes the development of retails center with a total of 400 shopping units and cinemas.
Project Value: USD 373 Million.
I was responsible for the construction electrical works and activities in a zone of the project with more than 50 shopping units and 2 basements, including the supervision of more than 40 workers under my management for the installation/ completion of all the electrical works and activities in the zone in accordance with the shop drawings, schedules provided and Engineer’s/ Employer’s instructions, controlling the quality of the works, and coordinating with the teams of the other disciplines (civil, architecture and mechanical) in order to complete the whole of the works and the project accordingly.
