ACADEMIC PROJECT Title: EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF TRANSLUCENT CONCRETE BY OPTICAL GLASS FIBRE Description: Translucent concrete is a light transmitting concrete which is a new energy-saving building material that permits transmission of light into indoor environment because of the embedded optical fibers. In this experimental study, the work is divided into two phases. In first phase, study of compressive strength of normal concrete and normal mortar with translucent concrete and translucent mortar and later in second phase study on flexural behaviour of normal concrete prism and normal mortar prism with translucent concrete and translucent mortar prism were carried out. Secondly, study the percentage of light transmittance of translucent concrete was evaluated for 3%, 4%, 5% addition of optical glass fibres using an electrical circuit test setup with light dependent resistor (LDR). Optical fibre may be of glass or plastic having a density of 2200 Kg/m3 to 2400 Kg/m3 and tensile capacity of 3400 Mpa to 4500Mpa.

ACADEMIC PROJECT Title: A CASE STUDY ON EFFECT OF FLY-ASH BASED SIFCON ON STRENGTH OF CONCRETE Description: Slurry Infiltrated Fiber Reinforced Concrete(SIFCON) can be considered as a type of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC), produced by infiltrating cement-sand slurry into a bed of preplaced fibers by the replacement of fly ash from 5-20% and determining the tensile, compressive and flexural strength of concrete. SIFCON is made by placing short discrete fibres in the moulds to its full capacity or to the desired volume fraction, thus forming a network. The fibre is then infiltrated by a fine liquid cement based slurry or mortar. Because of the high fibre content, SIFCON has unique and superior mechanical properties in the area of both strength and durability. The fiber content usually varies from 6 to 20% by volume depending upon the geometry and application of fiber. The fibers may be of Steel Fiber (SF) Galvanized Iron Fiber (GIF) High Density Poly Ethylene Fiber (HDPEF) etc…
