-Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every mine worker under or assigned to his/her supervision.
-Direct and control department activities in order to achieve program targets within planned expense limits.
-Develop a risk-based H&S management system framework consistent with the Newmont H&S Policy, IMS, OHSAS 18001 and other management practices to which Newmont has committed.
-Design, implement and direct emergency preparedness for all recognized emergencies. This includes management of Rapid Response functions.
-Provide oversight for legal compliance issues that may affect Newmont programs and advise management on the application of sound H&S principles and practices in support of corporate values and objectives.
-Provide auditable criteria, against which H&S management systems can be measured.
-Develop and maintain an Industrial Hygiene program to ensure that controls are in place to prevent personal harm from chemical, biological, ergonomic, and physical hazards.
-Advise line management regarding safety rules, regulations, trends, statistics and compliance with rules and policies.
-Analyze data from event investigation, observations, inspections and other sources to assure management that programs are working as intended. Propose alternatives to programs that are working as intended.
-Monitor the Site’s Occupational Medical services to ensure that work related illness are prevented and addressed professionally via medical personnel, processes, facilities and equipment.
-Prepare reports and presentations for management, government, and corporate officials.
-Develop operating budgets for the Health and Safety department and ensure adherence to the budget.
-Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Health and Safety efforts.
-Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with governmental agencies

•Participate in the development and implementation of Integrated Management System (ISO14001/OHSAS18001).
•Provide advice to department managers about hazard Identification, risk management, safety rules and regulation, trends & statistics and legal compliance
•Manage, review and audit the accident/incident reporting and investigation processes to ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are appropriate to prevent recurrence
•Conduct internal audits for the integrated management system and health & safety technical standards.
•Monitor lag indicators after external audits (IFC, ISO14001/OHSAS18001, and Cyanide Code Audit) and ensure gaps are closed prior to follow-up.

•Providing professional HSE advice to Lycopodium Team and Contractor Teams on site
•Actively promoting HSE culture that mitigates the risk of injury to personnel and damage to plant, equipment, environment and heritage aspects of the project
•Monitoring the implementation of the Ahafo Gold Project Safety/Environmental Management Plan
•Issuance of HSE bulletins and generally ensuring there is clear communications of all safety, health, environmental and heritage issues
•Monitoring the HSE status and drive continuous improvement providing for the best possible HSE direction for the project
•Coordinating all HSE activities with Lycopodium, Newmont Gold Ghana Limited and the contractors and other organizations providing services on site to the project
•Conducting project induction programs for all new starters on the project
•Developing HSE training programs as required
•Maintaining all HSE records on site in accordance with Newmont Gold Ghana Limited statutory and Lycopodium requirements
•Reviewing all accident/incidents investigations including near miss incidents
•Establishing and monitoring health, safety, environmental and hygiene programs as required
•Submitting monthly reports and statistical information to the Lycopodium HSE Manager for review and approval
•Attending all Project Health and Safety Committee meetings
•Attending all contractors onsite kickoff meetings and contractors weekly progress meetings
•Ensuring all contractors are made aware of the project site first aid facilities and ensuring contractors provide adequate personnel trained in first aid, for treatment and assessment of injured
•Attending contractors Pre-start and toolbox meetings as the Lycopodium representativ
