• Seconded to act as a Legislation Officer in 2005, undertaking building and licensing inspections, assisting businesses to conform to the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005.

Advised on safety issues and risk assessments for public and employee welfare. Appointed fire service legislation officer and had warrant that enabled entry to industrial premises to ensure compliance with fire regulations; failure of compliance required invoking of improvement or prohibition notices.

• Mobilised to several large incidents, which developed leadership skills, worked across a host of incident types and worked with many other agencies.
