Working within the Electricity Alliance East, I am the sole QS responsible for delivering an £18.5m 400kV Overhead Line Refurbishment project in Kent, whilst also managing a further three projects at design stage. The projects are being delivered using NEC3 Option C.

• Monthly financial reporting (CVR), including assessment of Earned Value, Cost to Date and forecast to completion in liaison with site team.
• Prepare and submit Early Warning Notices (EWN), Notification of Compensation Events (NCE) and Notification of Programme Risk Events (NPRE) to the client.
• Prepare and maintain a register of EWNs, NCEs & NPREs.
• Liaison and negotiation of NCE’s with the client.
• Assess Applications for Payments, and invoices, from subcontractors in line with required timescales.
• Close management of subcontractors, monitoring their costs, raising additional requisitions where required and identifying variances against the agreed scope and Target Cost allowances.

Working within Investment Projects, delivering a varied portfolio of schemes from design through to implementation. I am responsible for providing commercial assistance to the project teams in Building & Civils, as well as additional work for the National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP) and National Electrification Programme (NEP).

• Providing commercial assistance to the Commercial Manager and the wider Project Team.
• Evaluating and processing applications for payment received from contractors checking that they are a true reflection of progress on site and ensuring that payments are certified within the required 14 days of receipt.
• Taking on sole responsibility for the commercial management of the Wendover ‘Access For All Scheme’ - a £1.2 million scheme to deliver a new footbridge together with the installation of two lifts.
• Assisting with contractor procurement, aiding in the compilation of tender documentation, preliminaries and pricing documents, and in the assessment of tender returns.
• Ensuring that Purchase Orders are raised correctly and issued in good time to reflect the terms and conditions of the relevant contract.
• Managing the variation and change control process within Network Rail’s Accounting System (Oracle Projects) and utilising Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to maintain my own record of progress.
• Liaising directly with suppliers regarding invoices queries and arranging credit notes when required.
• The monitoring of project budgets in line with company financial reporting requirements and contractor cash flow forecasts.
• Checking quantities and value when required - experience of taking off and checking calculations for foundations, steelwork, concrete, internal finishes, roofs, floors etc.
• Raising invoices to bill external parties ensuring that monies due are collected within good time and that where applicable external funding is secured.
• Closing schemes out in consultation with Commercial and Project Managers ensuring that all monies due have been paid and any efficiencies released for utilisation elsewhere by Asset Management.
• Management of OTL (recording of time) process for whole team, to ensure funds are available and that time is booked only to schemes with sufficient budget thus preventing accruals.
• The close management of the Application for Payment and Certification ensuring that each step is completed in line with KPI targets.
• Attending and contributing to periodic site progress meetings to monitor contractor performance raising any potential commercial issues with the relevant Commercial Manager.
• Creating and updating several Excel spreadsheets which were set up to monitor contractor and Network Rail performance.
• Resolving payment queries raised by contractors with Accounts Payable in a timely manner, and promptly providing updates to contractors on progress and when resolved.
• Monthly cost reporting process.
