Research Projects
1. Research Project : Comparative Analysis of Logistics Practices in Thailand with Singapore
Location : Singapore
* Challenges faced by Thailand were identified and infrastructure projects that have the potential
to boost Thailand’s logistics capabilities in the region were studied for their feasibility in the
region.
* Thai-canal, which can take away Singapore’s strategic advantage as it would serve as a bypass
route between Middle East and the West was studied for its impact on operations.
* Thailand has a median age of 37 years but has most people working in agricultural sector, it has
a high literacy rate of 93%, this can serve as a great potential for skilled labour employed for
logistics.
* Barriers identified were trade embargoes and goods taxes which apply even for free movement
in the country itself.
2. Research Project : Achieving Sustainability through Packaging
Location: Sydney
* Life cycle of packaged food products was studied to identify different sources of wastage.
Modern technologies that can be implemented in Australian food industry for packaging were
studied intensively. Ways to make packaging more sustainable were suggested.
* Inadequate protection from environment, retail quality rejections, concealed date marking on
products, consolidated packing & shipping and improper disposal at the consumer end
contributed to wastage. Out of which 90% is recoverable with present efforts leading to only 2%
being recycled.
* Ventilated storage, retail ready packing (RRP), local sourcing, sort and recycle channels of
disposal, visible date markings, collaborated efforts of Warehouse management systems (WMS)
and Transport management systems (TMS), self-cooling packaging were identified as some of
the possible solutions to the problems faced in Australia.
3. Capstone Research Project: To Study the impact of environmental sustainability measures and
technology adoption on the productivity of Warehouses in UAE
Location: Dubai
* Role of technology in logistics management and analysis of sustainability measures adopted in
logistics operations and how these measures are getting implemented in to warehouse
operations in the UAE. This project is still in progress.
