To support 3 Managers in different areas of work (Operations Manager, Professional Conference Organiser and MICE Manager & Business Development Manager). Involves a large area of HR / recruitment, planning and organisation as well as implementation of policies and procedures for the smooth operation of the business.
My responsibilities included :-
- purchasing of new equipment and disposal of assets.
- resolution of issues relating to hotel contacts, involves reviewing hotel contacts and credit facility applications.
- being the contact person between suppliers and managers in dealing with various admin related matters - HR policies and processes.
- reviewing legal matters: hotel contracts, third party liability documents, credit facility documents and the like.
- analysing training needs for the department - implementation & coordinating.

I was in charge of all trade mark affairs of the Malaysian office and worked independently handling:
- trade mark filings
- handling Office Actions from the Malaysian Trade Marks Registry
- attending to queries from clients and overseeing general affairs of the KL office
- meeting with clients as well as officers at the Registry.
- Nominated by General Manager to represent the company at various international conferences/seminars such as ASEAN IP Association Annual Conference (AIPA) & International Trade Mark Association (INTA).
- Reported directly to the General Manager in Singapore in the smooth operation of the KL office and managing two secretarial staff.
My responsibilities included :
- prosecuting for trademark registrations and oppositions. Jurisdiction involved the US, Europe and the Asia Pacific region.
- Public Relations Officer (PRO), was in charge of promoting the firm into the international law establishments.
- conducting researches on seminars and meetings for participation with the view to further expose the company in the marketplace.
- PRO duties also related to various Personal Assistance tasks to Managing Director.
- acted as front desk to various queries relating to the firm and general IP matters.
- With the introducing of ‘Madrid Protocol’ in Malaysia - Wrote and published a paper on this for use by clients.
My responsibilities included:
- maintaining existing trademark applications/registrations and registration of new trademarks, mainly dealing with Intellectual Property (IP) rights in India and the Middle East assuring that all IP rights were well protected.
- prosecuting 80% of pending trademarks during my time of employment.
- establishing and overseeing regular contacts with international legal and business counterparts.
- maintaining constant communication with the relevant authorities to expedite grants of registration in various jurisdictions.
- instituting changes to increase productivity, decrease costs, and enhance employee loyalty.
- developing policies and procedures related to administration and legal issues.
- acting as executive assistant to the Managing Director.
- analysing and solving management issues and related problems.
- forward planning, case file research and editing related to trademarks, copyright, and other company administration issues.
My responsibilities included:
- prosecuting for trademark registrations and oppositions.
- administering trademark applications/registrations in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei, and developing legal submissions to overcome objections.
- instructing foreign associates on trademark applications, registrations and oppositions in various countries: UK, EU, US, Canada, India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and China.
- recovering debts owed to firm and paying invoices.
- performing office operations - answering telephone enquiries of trademark procedures, organising functions for IP related talks.
- supervising students’ continuing in-house legal education.
- With the introduction of Registered Design registration in Singapore, wrote and published an article for clients
- Started as an Intellectual Property (IP) Administrative Assistant, working under the Partner in charge of the IP section.
- In 1996, promoted as the IP supervisor, heading the IP team of 6 secretaries with approximately 3000 trademark-related files.
