Resident Engineer (Senior Quantity Surveyor)
My overall responsibility is to focus the project team’s effort in achieving all the clients’ key commercial objectives, while also implementing a restructuring of all Contractual and Commercial processes. The numerous Contracts although individually modest in value, have when combined an overall value of some AED 1.2 Billion. The fast track nature of the work has given me a great exposure to varied Claims which larger Projects would rarely be subjected to.
Post-contract responsibilities include:
• Advising both the Resident Engineer and the Abu Dhabi Municipality on all Contractual issues preparing responding to Contractor Claims.
• Implementing both a bottom up and top down approach to the Project Administration, Contractual and Commercial Procedures.
• Preparing and issuing cost reports
• Change management
• Risk management
Senior Quantity Surveyor
My responsibilities varied over the 3 years and included two secondments, but I was principally focused on the delivery of the clients’ key commercial objectives performing the role of a Cost Consultant on Post Contract Projects. And although my experience was predominantly spent dealing with Post Contract work, I spent a considerable part of my final 10 months working on Pre Contract cost planning and tender evaluation.

Project Quantity Surveyor
As a Project Quantity Surveyor within one of the UK & Irelands largest main contractors I was involved in a broad range of sectors including residential, retail, healthcare and local government authority facilities. My core project involved working on a €54m mixed use development in Limerick city using a GMP form of contract, as well as working on a number of smaller side projects.
Procuring and managing the costs of more than 70 subcontractors ranging in value from €10k to €4m.
Continuously analysing and managing cost throughout the duration of the project and periodically carrying out CVR’s for real time cost reporting.
Submitting main contract applications and variations to the client in accordance with the contract and agreeing the final account.
Proactively advising engineers and project managers on more cost effective method of site management.
Attending weekly site progress and design team meetings
Project Quantity Surveyor
Within this medium sized London main contractor my main duties included working as a quantity surveyor on a £8M design and build retail park in north London. This role included:

Procuring and managing the costs of more than 30 subcontract packages ranging from £10k to £1m in value.
Continuously analysing and managing cost throughout the duration of the project and periodically carrying out CVR’s for in house reporting.
Assisting in the submission of main contractor applications and variations to the client in accordance with the contract and agreeing the final account.
While working on the above projects I also assisted with quantity surveying and estimating duties on a number of other projects, which included agreeing the large subcontractor final accounts for Tuthill Stairs in Newcastle, and coordinating and carrying out the cost management of the internal PJ Carey HQ extension and refurbishment.
Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Within the UK’s largest drywall lining subcontractor I held the position of QS on numerous residential projects. I had responsibility for managing and reporting on all aspects of the day to day commercial management, from the initial tender bid, submitting interim applications, paying site staff, and submitting final accounts.
As Junior Quantity Surveyor within this well regarded Cost Consultancy, my main role included assisting the Senior Quantity Surveyor on all commercial aspects of the Croke Park stadium project in Dublin City.
