At Scie-Plas Ltd, I was involved in the design, research and manufacture of a wide range of Electrophoresis products, Horizontal and Vertical Gel Units, blotters, together with all the appropriate accessories. And also full range of Radiation Protection equipment and accessories. My duties included the set up a cad suit using an AutoCad system, maintain this area and manage the cad room. My job also involved plastic fabrication work. Specialising in products fabricated and machined from various plastic materials, including foam PVC, silicon acrylic, PETG, PVC and polycarbonate, as well as all engineering plastics. All designs are created to customer requirements. My main task was understand what the customer requires, this was by telephone call or in person, using just a sketch and transferring the sketch or information to AutoCad and producing a fully working model plus 2D drawing for manufacture. I would follow all my designs from customer requirements, from basic concept or sketch then on into design. This also includes one off's where necessary for checking, and then a final inspection. Before packing and sending to the customer. Due to the nature of this role I was required to have good communication skills as I am needed to communicate with customers. On a daily basis, reason for leaving I was made redundant. The company had a few financial problems.

My task was to design and detail jig and fixtures. All designs were done using AutoCad; these were all modelled up in model space using solids and some surfacing. All the detail work such as dimensioning and BOM, were all created in AutoCad, all designs were created to customer requirements using panel data sent to us from the customer. This was in the form of model surfaces. There were times when I was asked to modify the surface model. I followed my designs from customer requirements, through to concept then on into design. Through manufacture, then finally installation. I set up a computer system at DSE and installed a network. Part of my job function was to build all the new PC's and install all the appropriate operating systems. This role also required me to communicate with the customer as I needed to know the format of the data being sent to us. I was an In house trainer for AutoCad software. I supervised apprentices with their college work.

The work I was involved in at this company was varied, the tasks I was asked to do where to design jig and fixtures, design metal containers from machined steel blocks, aluminium, steel plate or off the shelf readymade boxes. These boxes where designed to hold printed circuit boards and electrical components of varying sizes. There were also connectors and connection units between vehicles and vehicle mechanical/electrical installation works. The vehicles in question MOD Haglands and tanks. As well as boxes and PCB design work. I was involved in some missile guidance systems. There was mounting plates and press tooling design work, and also veering sizes of cabling looms. I was also asked to digitize using AutoCad as a type of sketching tool using what is known as a tablet and puck.
