Legal Advisor / Mediator
CULTURAL MEDIATOR - Associazione Lachesi
Total years of experience :7 years, 4 Months
I work as a cultural mediator and translator with vulnerable people, such as women who have experienced domestic violence or forced prostitution and unaccompanied minors who have recently moved to Europe from the SWANA region (currently on-demand and online).
I work as a cultural, currently remotely and on call. When I was working in person, my main tasks were to mediate for and support individuals in vulnerable situations, such as:
- individuals who had experienced gender-based violence and/or forced prostitution;
- unaccompanied minors;
- minors that recently moved from the SWANA region to the EU (through their inclusion in the Italian School and Social Systems).
My main tasks were:
- preparing and leading trainings for new volunteers;
- assisting asylum seekers, by answering their questions and providing them with information about the asylum procedure in Belgium and the Dublin III Regulation;
- design work guidelines;
- assisting the Advocacy Team;
- writing weekly reports and monthly data recount reports with the work done on the field.
During the fall-winter of 2021 the team came together to outline a support project as a result of the shelter crisis in Belgium. The Federal agency for the reception of asylum seekers (Fedasil) was no longer able to accommodate incoming asylum seekers (adults, families with children, or unaccompanied minors). The team organized, together with other civic entities on site, a network of solidarity and support with the aim of putting asylum seekers in touch with lawyers - who could apply to the Brussels Labor Court - and with services on site that would ensure access to basic necessities and needs.
I worked as a cultural mediator and my job consisted in supporting the European Union Agency for Asylum's experts and caseworkers, working in the
Immigration Office of Questura di Varese (Police Station), by formalizing asylum seekers’ applications and registering them on the Italian Asylum System (VESTA.NET).
I worked as a Legal Advisor and our main tasks were:
- support asylum seekers in the bureaucratic procedure in order to
apply for International Protection;
- explain the Dublin III Regulation;
- give legal information and
identify vulnerabilities - including sexual and gender related ones - through interviews, in order to
know which procedure to apply;
- supporting and preparing asylum seekers for the interview with the Territorial Commission.
I worked as a Social Worker, following specific cases and:
- granting migrants access to legal and health assistance;
- providing them with information on the italian procedure in order to have access to international protection;
- bridging between asylum seekers, refugees and
Legal and Social Services in the area.
