Corporate Qhse Manager at BeFirst (Greater London Authority)

BeFirst is an organisation established by Barking and Dagenham council to develop 400 hectares of mixed use development on brown field sites; including 50, 000 new homes for East London.
The Contract was an interim role whilst council operatives were moved over to the new body; during my contract I established all baseline processes and assured minimum legal compliance across the organisation.

Quality & Performance Lead MENA at SNC Lavalin

For the MDD project I won the Qatar Sustainability Award for 2018 for Facility Management.

High level work involves:

• Strategy proposal & implementation for the Integrated Management System and Corporate framework
(Registered to ISO9001:2015 in 2018 with PAS 99 registration set for third quarter of 2019 for 14001; 18001; & 41001 registration)
• Design and implementation of Corporate Quality Management System for MENA region involving:
o National a& international Legislation register creation & analysis
o Formulation of:
 Corporate policies & procedures;
 Corporate standards & practices in line with international best practice;
 Corporate KPIs & metrics and associated reporting systems
 Associated training and reference materials & systems for the IMS

System development has been root & branch; SNC Lavalin sold all O&M operations outside of the MENA region in 2016; after which time the business expanded & diversified. In turn there was a need to develop Corporate Management systems firstly at project level; then National and Regionally.

• Digitisation process for Corporate and Project KPI reporting and analysis.
o I have designed a suite of over 200 inspection & audit reports generating over 400, 000 data points for analysis on an annual basis revolutionising the reporting capabilities for project and corporate data.
o The key platforms used have been I-Auditor and TeamTrain; for which I have worked closely with the developers to see functions adapted beyond the original remit of the software platforms.

QHSE Manager at Interserve KSA
  • Saudi Arabia - Riyadh

King Abdullah Financial District / ITCC Project)
In order to attract the world's leading Information Technology and Communications (ITC) companies to Saudi Arabia, the Rayadah Investment Company, the investment arm of the government's Public Pensions Agency undertook to create 2 world class sites in Saudi Arabia; namely the US $1.65 billion Information Technology Communications Complex (ITCC) development & the US $11.6 billion King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh.

To put the scale of the larger of the 2 developments into perspective, KAFD is approximately 4 times the size of Canary Wharf with 59 towers within the estate, provides a total built up area of 5 million m2; encompassing financial, commercial, retail, communal, residential and infrastructure services and facilities, 62, 000 parking spaces and accommodation for 12, 000 residents.

The contract is to provide Total FM services to KAFD.
I am the QSHE managing consultant for contractors working on these sites.
High level work involves line management of a team of QSHE inspectors; establishment & updates to legislation registers cross referencing local and international standards; analysis of RFP documentation for tenders and production of policies & procedures with the intention of accreditation to ISO9001; 14001; 50001 & OHSAS18001.
On a daily basis I am also involved operationally in producing accident reports, statistics and carrying out construction leadership tours, fit out, refurbishment and constructions building inspections etc.

Health & Safety Manager at Bancroft Ltd
  • United Kingdom
  • June 2014 to August 2015

I am responsible for the Health & Safety management for multiple fast track ME&R fit out construction projects located mainly in central London. Notable projects are Facebook HQ; the Walkie Talkie & Cheesegrater buildings; and Guildhall.
The role consists of a considerable degree of contractor management; with a 60/40 direct labor split.

Compliance Manager at Addison Lee
  • United Kingdom
  • October 2013 to June 2014

I was responsible for the strategic management of the legal compliance remit; developing the Compliance department in line with the company's exceptional growth and the associated corporate and client demands.
I managed a team covering all planned & reactive activities; there is a significant contractor management angle; and I initiated a comprehensive review of all management systems with a schedule towards PAS99 certification for 2014 years end.
I moved the companies specialist "green" division; WestOne Cars; from the worst PAS99 audit result in Europe to a position of zero major non-conformities & minor; similarly I gained re-certification for 9001; 14001; & 18001 for the Addison Lee group.

The short gap in employment was due to a serious health scare; now operated on and benign.

Head of Health and Safety for Arcus Engineering - FM joint venture with Sainsbury. at Arcus Engineering
  • United Kingdom
  • September 2010 to May 2013

I was responsible for the development of a strategy for H&S Management and for developing the framework for the strategy to be based upon.
The scope of the role covered all FM related works associated with the Sainsbury's portfolio of stores and facilities for London and the South and has a large contractor management angle attached.
This involved advising the business on how to comply with H&S legislation and developing the tools they need to do that.
I attained ISO90001 registration; and prepared the process & procedures of 14001 and 18001 registration with a future move to a fully integrated management system.

Contractor at Multiple FM & Retail organisations
  • Ireland
  • November 2009 to September 2010

Multiple small and Medium firms
During this period I worked predominantly within the UK & Ireland; overseeing Safe contractor & CHAS applications; ISO management for certification; and general SHEQ related duties for small and medium size FM firms

H&S Manager at Aimita Corporation
  • United Kingdom
  • June 2009 to November 2009

I managed a full safety audit review of the “Innoventive” company and implemented remedial actions effectively consisting of a re-write of the entire safety management system from the ground up.
Similarly, new management appointments within the News International structures resulted in new demands upon PFMCS, particularly within the security and fire division. Subsequently it became a business priority to review all existing documentation concerning this contract. I have created a full set of assignment notes, post instructions, and risk assessments; including site specific security risk assessments; for the first time in the company’s history; and also ensured that all staff SIA registrations are current and correct.
The facilities contract for Nationwide Building society went active during my period with the company and I designed and implemented a complete safety management system for this contract. This encompassed induction and training programs for new staff and those “tupeed” over. A set of specialist risk assessments and safe systems of work for each of the “prime” Nationwide building configurations; and an inspection process for management.
Given the diversity of staff, tasks and environments involved I am very proud of achieving so much in so little time; and I feel I have left the company in a fundamentally better position than when I first joined them.

QSHE Advisor at Imtech Inviron
  • United Kingdom
  • January 2008 to June 2009

The role involved considerable client interface; the client being the main driver in the direction of H&S management and initiatives. Anticipating and reacting to client demands, whilst managing expectations on both sides is as much part of the job as the compliance duties.
I managed the QSHE remit of over 600 employees employed within the BAA airports group involved in critical response and planned maintenance across all areas of the airports, from M&E, to HVAC, to construction across every working background from construction sites to kitchens to plant rooms to shopping malls.
All projects within the BAA structure are highly regulated and tightly run under the CDM regulations so I have extensive experience as working for, and as principal contractors.
Given the diverse nature of projects the majority of the projects can be classed as “active”, by which I mean passenger facing. Nearly seventy million people passed through Heathrow alone in 2008/09, the majority of these people will have had some kind of interface with a project I was responsible for the management of safety on, and I am glad to say that during this period there were no reported incidents or accidents involving members of the public.
I additionally covered the “Medium term contracts” group, which covers Inviron’s Marine division involved in heavy shipbuilding and maintenance; and maintenance at the BBC London studios, and the Houses of Parliament.

HSE Advisor at Unitrans Ltd
  • United Kingdom - London
  • January 2007 to January 2008

I managed the H&S of over 300 employees over 14 sites, geographically spread over the UK; France; Spain & Ireland.
I have overseen two audits on different sites from the Environmental Health office, and three inspections by the fire officer under the regulatory reform act.
I have established an effective QHSE management system for the first time in the company’s history, enabling accreditation to ISO standards 9001, 14001, and 27001.
Further to the improvement plans put forward following compliance audits, I designed and gained approval for a rolling investment plan to meet minimum regulatory standards with regards to the infrastructure of the company’s estate.

H&S Advisor at Total Maintenance Solutions - Heathrow and Gatwick

existing terminals covering assets worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

Designed the format and methods of assessment and inspection for a program of COSHH specific audits and inspections, to be implemented across Heathrow Airport Terminals 1 - 4.
The focus was on developing a comprehensive Chemical in the Workplace and Industrial Hygiene program and ensuring that they are robust enough to meet the challenges of being compliant with legislation and Corporate Safety guidelines. Over 5000 products have been cataloged and classified successfully in a Comprehensive COSHH database, with a system of permits to work now being introduced to ensure compliance.
