Currently supporting the ORTEC MS SQL server dba jobs and file handling operations. Currently innovating and automating procedures and applications that will reduce the time to troubleshoot or analyze the problem or workaround. Currently ITILv3 Certified. Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing, education and production usage.
Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases. The DBA works closely with system administration staff because computers often have applications or tools on them in addition to the Oracle Databases.
Performs ongoing tuning of the database instances. Install new versions of the Oracle RDBMS and its tools and any other tools that access the Oracle database.
Plans and implements backup and recovery of the Oracle database. Controls migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes and menu changes through the development life cycle. Implements and enforces security for all of the Oracle Databases. Performs database re-organizations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum uptime of the database. Puts standards in place to ensure that all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security and performance. The DBA will perform reviews on the design and code frequently to ensure the site standards are being adhered to.
Evaluates releases of Oracle and its tools, and third party products to ensure that the site is running the products that are most appropriate. Planning is also performed by the DBA, along with the application developers and System administrators, to ensure that any new product usage or release upgrade takes place with minimal impact.
Provides technical support to application development teams. This is usually in the form of a help desk. The DBA is usually the point of contact for Oracle Corporation. Enforces and maintains database constraints to ensure integrity of the database. Administers all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages and procedures.
Assists with impact analysis of any changes made to the database objects. Troubleshoots with problems regarding the databases, applications and development tools.
Create new database users as required. Manage sharing of resources amongst applications. The DBA may have the ultimate responsibility for the physical database design. Install, patch and maintain all Oracle software, tune all Oracle instance components including SQL and PL/SQL, approve all production schema changes, approve changes to database design, control all migrations of Oracle schema objects, design and implement a backup & recovery system and implement Oracle failover technology
Coordinates and clarifies with the OLA (Operational Level Agreement) and SLA (Service Level Agreement) with the SLM (Service Level Manager), process owner and other higher level job admin delegations
Troubleshoot and resolve application specific database incidents escalated by support teams ad drive problem management by initiating root cause analysis and implementing permanent fixes to problems. Tune and optimize database performance and perform regular database maintenance activities. Review and execute application specific database routine service requests and conduct application specific DBA trainings and/or qualification exams

Application DBA focuses on database design and the ongoing support and administration of databases for a specific application or subset of applications
Application DBA writes and debugs complex SQL and understands the best ways to incorporate database requests into application programs. Application DBA performs database change management, performance tuning, and most of the other roles of the DBA and better focus on an individual application, which can result in better service to the developers of that application.
Application DBA is more often viewed as an integral component of the development team and therefore is better informed about new development plans and changes. Because the application DBA works consistently on a specific set of applications, he can acquire a better overall understanding of how each application works, enabling him to better support the needs of the application developers with a more comprehensive understanding of the application, an application DBA will have a better understanding of how the application impacts the overall business. This knowledge will likely result in the execution of DBA tasks to better support the organization.
Application DBA understands the details and nuances of SQL coding for performance and be able to design databases for performance. A performance analyst will have very detailed technical knowledge of the DBMS so that he can make appropriate changes to DBMS and system parameters when required. The performance analyst must be able to speak to application developers in their language in order to help them facilitate appropriate program changes for performance. Application DBA is usually the most skilled, senior member of the DBA staff, a role that he has grown into due to his experience and the respect he has gained in past tuning endeavors.
